They aren't responsible for typos in their ads though. But if enough people call in they might relent.

They ARE responsible for holding $XXX of my credit (or debit balance) for 10 days.

Enough already, we cannot call and complain and threaten with lawsuits over this kind of stuff everytime it happens. Mistakes like this happen all the time. I am sure they have many lawyers and the disclaimers they post hold some form of validity. Everyone quit complaining, and move on with life.

They never actually withdraw the money from your account. The money is still yours they just send in a request to make sure you have the funds to pay for the item when and if they ship.

Actually every time this has happened to me the company has made an authorization for the full amount. This means that amount of my bank account (debit) is frozen for 10 days, or that amount is subtracted from my limit (credit) for 10 days. They are in effect taking an unauthorized loan from me. I authorized them to take the money in return for shipping a product to me, not to take it just in case they decided to ship the product.

You're so right on that....

Re:

Feel free to ask for interest on your 10 day loan, I'm sure the resulting hassle will be worth the money. :)

1) They don't actually debit your account and recieve funds from you. Actually Dell loses money because thay pay VISA for this transaction.
2) There is no "loan"
3) Don't bitch for trying to pull a fast one. You knew that price was wrong and now you are paying for it.

1) They make an authorization. Thats what matters.
2) When someone takes your money for a time then gives it back, thats called a loan.
3) We arent always trying to pull a fast one. There are plenty of deals on these forums that arent obviously errors, stuff like a $400 LCD for $300. That COULD be a markdown. And yet hundreds of people will unwittingly loan Dell $3000 dollar-days worth of credit.

nobody "took" your money. is's still in your account earning interest until the creditor withdraws it. getting a 17" LCD for $200 would be stealing. let alone getting a computer with it. face it you tried to get away with something it but it didn't work. stop crying.

Wrong

No its an authorization only transaction, funds are only frozen, they were not dispursed to dell, therefore its not a loan.
authorization only charges are made primarily with preorders and such, bank confirms that your account has that amount of money available and holds it for the merchant, it is not transfered, only held!

Markdowns are usually advertised, no hidden in all these many steps on getting it cheap.

if you dont like it then dont shop with dell, simple as that. they dont have to compensate anything. :cussing:

Actually, the way I see it all you people complaining about so called whiners are the ones who are the real whiners.

Need I remind you all that part of the reason for this site is to exploit "mistakes" just like this one?

And guess what? Finding ways to exploit mistakes by big corporations like dell (which sell their products for too much in the first place, considering their lack of quality) doesn't stop at "well they made a mistake so we should tell them about it and let them go".

I think some of you people need to be reminded that exploitation in all it's forms when it comes to DELL should be encouraged not discouraged.

This is ridiculous, and insane. :banghead:
