I think I would rather spend the money on a lcd hdtv. A 32" is less than 899 + tax.

A 32" LCD HDTV is going to have 1360x768 resolution, 1,044,480 pixels vs. 2,304,000 for the monitor. So, it really depends if you are getting it to use close up as a monitor or far away for watching video/movies.

I think he's referring to a 1080p hdtv which can usually display at 1920x1080 (2,073,600 pixels).

BTW, here's a JVC 37" flat-panel LCD 1080p HDTV for $799 (plus $42 shipping and possibly tax).
