Half a gig of ram? XP will be a performing underdog, but Vista?

I'd rather be tied to a car's bumper and be dragged across a gravel parking lot than to run Vista on half a gig......jeez!

you get to pick vista or xp, of course the latter is better... whether its 1gb or not.

thanks spoof, im looking to replace my custom built pc, circa 2003... its starting to make noises =p

just like when the cheap computers came with 256MB RAM when Windows XP was out, but really you needed 512MB RAM to run XP more better.

come on...... ur getting a 19" monitor with it....! do the calc. desktop DDR2s are so cheap now.... just get you a couple of gigs.

The mem (2 Gigs) will still cost you around $100 with shipping and tax right from Crucial.com

The kit is 2 1Gig sticks for $89 (CT587639)...

Keep in mind though that this system is HALF HEIGHT when it comes to cards...

Want to add better graphics card? Better make sure that card is half height or you'll be living with a computer you cannot put the cover back onto...

:yo:

Also beware - this computer does NOT have a ps2 port. Your keyboard and mouse have to be USB.

And that 80 Gig Hard Drive will keep you busy for what? A couple of months before it is reaching it's capacity limit...

I would pass....

:yo:

i bought two both with xp home...works for me

well why would anyone be using ps2 anymore? lol

no one seemed to noticed but...

19in 5ms, 1440 x 900res. 1000:1

both WITH HDCP. seems like the samsung is an overall winner for cheaper :)

for the samsung monitor, cheapest price is at amazon.com 235 after rebate. even pricegrabber doesn't have a cheaper deal. which makes the rest of the computer worth 170 bucks. can't complain about 512mb ddr2 ram or 80gb hdd and with optional vista. seems like a good deal to me.

everyone knows that the ps2 port will soon eventually become obsolete. dell just choses to want to make it obsolete now :P the only thing i find that NOT having the ps2 port available is when hooking the computer up to a kvm switch. :( (annoying for computer repair techs)

i did...grab one with samsung

also if you start adding a bigger hard drive and more RAM, better make sure the power supply will be able to handle it.

computer dummy

I need a new computer. I just rebooted mine but it keeps on telling "not enough virtual memory." I have nothing on this machine. Nothing! How can there not be enough memory.

Anyhow, I know nothing about computers. I like the flat screen. Is this a good deal?

thanx

Hey..If it looks like a deal and smell likes a deal..... I know a great deal when I see one and you can pick at this all you want but for the puter and flat panel screen-free shipping-DVD Drive....WOW!!! I ordered one with the Samsung. I just hope they dont email me later and try to tell me its no longer available(That seems to be my luck with the best offers)... Thanks Spoofee!!

I really don't understand why so many people are complaining about this deal. It is not meant for the enthusiast. It is meant for Grandma Kettle who is not in a hurry when she is online... they want the enthusiast to buy an XPS or the like.

If you know what you are doing, buy this one, get your extra's after-market, get a couple sticks of memory from Crucial, get a USB hard drive (not from Dell), etc. This system is only intended to serve as an entry point, not compete with the big-boys!!

:yo:

if we're going on the "cheap," 2x1gb sticks go for ~$70AR. of course, crucial is a "better" brand, but if it works, it works....

the half height is an issue if you want to slap in older cards. thanks for pointing that out for people it matters to. but then again, i never close my puter case any ways; i have 2 hdds installed in the racks and 6 others "hanging" out of it.....
