****** PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS...

YOU CAN ALSO GO ONLINE TO COMPLETE THIS AT donotcall.gov and the good part good for 5 years. I called yesterday and you can do up to 3. I had it before but needed to add cell. Now how do we get rid of bills or exhusbands LOL

If someone calls you, report it at that site too. There are several ways people can legally call you, however, e.g. charities.

i signed up for the donotcall.gov. it works :claps: :claps:

Its so simple.... I dialed their number, pressed 1 for english, pressed 1 again, dialed in my phone number and then i was done.... If only all aspects of anything dealing with the govt was that easy like taxes =( (Too bad I dont have to file them for like about 10 more years :D )

Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms.
Well if that was indeed the date, made no difference to me, I've never gotten a telemarketer call on my cell.

it's not suspicious, the only part that's not true is the fact that some fliers stated that there is a deadline...

Contrary to what some variants of the email rumor claim, there is no 31-day or December 15 deadline for adding cell phone numbers to the Do Not Call list — indeed, there is no deadline whatsoever.

i actually got a little scared there, but phfffeeew i feel better :)

no more annoying phone calls from credit card, newspaper, etc...

It worked instanteous for you? For me it took a couple weeks and I signed up in January. Although I do still get a couple calls now and then. :hmm:

DO NOT CALL registry

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public next month.

REMINDER.... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS even if the message is saved on your phone, you will be charged for the minutes to listen to it. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

If you prefer... you can register online instead.

You could register your cell phone on the Do Not Call Registry's website from day 1.

Not that it does much good, I still get solicitation calls.

FTC Consumer Alert

The National Do Not Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency. It is enforced by the FTC, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and state law enforcement officials.

Q&A: The National Do Not Call Registry - Tell Me More About the National Do Not Call Registry

#5 - When I register my phone number, how long until it shows up on the National Do Not Call Registry?
* After you register, your phone number will show up on the registry by the next day. Telemarketers have up to 31 days to get your phone number and remove it from their call lists.

#7 - If I registered by phone, will I receive a confirmation?
* No, but you can verify that your number is on the registry online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling the registry’s toll-free number (1-888-382-1222) and following the prompts for verifying that your number is on the registry.

** the phone number to call is the same as I posted **

I believe Brother Ron means the "urgency" regarding cell phones is false not the registry site.....

The Truth about Cell Phones and the Do Not Call Registry

Despite Re-Circulating E-mail, It is Still Not Necessary to Register Cell Phone Numbers
As the number of phone numbers on the National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry surpassed 139 million, the Federal Trade Commission today reiterated that despite the claims made in e-mails circulating on the Internet, consumers should not be concerned that their cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketers at any time in the near future. In addition, according to the agency, it is not necessary to register cell phone numbers on the DNC Registry to be protected from most telemarketing calls to cell phones.

The truth about cell phones and the DNC Registry is:

Contrary to the e-mail, cell phone numbers are NOT being released to telemarketers, and you will NOT soon be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone.

There is NO deadline by which you must register your cell phone number on the Registry.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent.

The national associations representing telemarketers have stated that their clients do not intend to start calling consumers’ cell phones.

There is only ONE DNC Registry. There is no separate registry for cell phones.

The DNC Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. You must call from the phone number that you want to register. If you register online, you must respond to a confirmation e-mail.

While the telecommunications industry has been discussing the possibility of creating a wireless 411 directory, according to the FCC, even if a wireless 411 directory is established, most telemarketing calls to cell phones would still be illegal, regardless of whether the number is listed on the federal government’s National Do Not Call Registry.

 I misunderstood.

Thank you.

yes, that is what i meant. According to snopes.com Cell phones going public is not true. It has been a rumor spreading around the internet for several years now.

Somewhat agree with Brother Ron - BOGUS. In fact, by "regestering", you may become a part of "DO CALL" list. Simple google search on the subject supports just that. If I were you, I would not do it. My 2c
