DoorDash delivers food from popular restaurants to your door. They are offering 15% off if you pick up in the restaurant. Why not pick up food on the way home for a movie night at home

Good until 4/6/2020

Step 1
Go to Door Dash and choose an order for pickup

Step 2
Use coupon promo code PICKUP15OFF to get 15% Off

Step 3
Pickup in the restaurant and enjoy a movie at home

If I am going to pickup the food myself why would I even use DoorDash?

??? A food 'delivery' service that wants me to drive to the restaurant. What a business plan.

Picking up the food yourself has a name. It’s called Takeout.
What am I missing?

This is actually a really good April fools day joke but I don't think it is meant to be one.

may as well give me a door dash t shirt so I can look like one of those clowns picking up the food.

Doordash charges the ordering customer for the membership, plus a per-order charge for delivery, and tries to get the customer to pay an additional tip. Then Doordash charges the partner restaurant up to 30% of the order. Since Doordash is not providing delivery with this pickup option, they are getting a good chunk of money from both the ordering customer and the partner restaurant, while doing ZERO work other than hosting a website and processing payments. It is a great business model from their POV.

Wait. So say the total is $10, but I use a $5 off coupon.

That's $5 out of my pocket
Restaurant needs to pay up to 30% so that's $3 they get back from the restaurant

I think Doordash still loses $2 on this transaction. They're counting on the customer to spend more though. That's where they win.

NOT A DEAL: Prices off DoorDash menu are much higher than direct from restaurant. If you're picking it up anyways, ordering directly from restaurant is cheaper in many cases.

This is a deal, you just have to use it right. If you get $5 off a $10 min purchase thats pretty good. Can pick up a decent burger and fries for $5. Also if you have a party of 4, say order for each family member you can get a good dinner for 20 bucks.

It’s just a marketing strategy to get people to download DoorDash that don’t already use it.

I use Doordash for delivery but never ever would I consider using their service for pickup. They create overhead and upcharge for their service. Okay if I don't have to leave my house but if I'm doing pickup I'm calling the restaurant's telephone directly and paying their real price for the menu.
