UPDATE: Open again, but only for College students 15-21 y.o. *& down again a matter of minutes later...
UPDATE 2: Now open again for people 51-61 years of age (thanks Kage_ for the info!)

SMS Test
Speed of Sound is currently collecting data on text messages for use as part of a project to help develop new text messaging tools. For this project to be successful, we need to gather sample text messages from a variety of people in the real world.

We've designed this web site to help us in collecting sample messages. It takes about an hour to complete a session and in exchange for your assistance, we're offering to pay you $10 via PayPal.

If you have experience with text messaging on a mobile phone and are between the ages of 15 and 61, you may qualify to participate. Before you participate, you'll need to have a verified PayPal account (click here if you don't have one).

It worked for me (but we'll see if the PayPal payment comes :( ). FYI it was torturously long and didn't make sense.

From what I've read, it may take a while to receive the $10 paypal credit, but you will receive it.

Happy to you know you were able to participate in the study :)
 
oh well, this sounded like they were just phishing for wireless numbers capable of receiving SMS...

They didn't request my phone number. :confused:

Plus I've never used my text message feature on my cell, if its even capable. ;)
 
WOW! I just checked my PayPal account and the $10 was sitting there. :claps:
 
Looks like it's working, but who knows who they are looking for and what combination of answers will qualify you, College students 15-21 y.o. get this response now:
"I'm sorry, you are not qualified to participate at this time."

Maybe it's down in such a way?!

Wow, that was quick :D Just completed the survey about 2 hours ago.
 
I can't believe that I showed myself as someone in his 50s and made myself suffer filling this survey for hours, I wasn't planning to, I think it's too much of a work for $10. :money:
And my credit card company just charged me $35 for a payment that they received late, way to go. lol. I'll call them and ask for it to be removed though, it worked before. :hail:

yeah, initially they were enrolling people anywhere in the 15-51 yr age range for this study. then they were apparently opening it to select groups. at one point it was for college students 15-21 y.o., then it was for people 51-61 y.o.

not sure now if it's closed to all age groups, or if they're still enrolling subjects for one of the age groups. i kept changing the title to try & keep up with what they had available, but it changes too much. i'm gonna change the title back to the way it was, noting it the age range you mentioned.

anyway, glad you got your $10! =)
 
got my $10 today

Filled out the SMS Survey yesterday, got a $10 Paypal echeck today. It worked. Thanks

Takes a good 30 - 40 minutes to complete if you can type. If you can't type, this may take you a couple hours to complete.
