Free - DVD Shrink, DVD Backup Software

DVD Shrink is a free software to backup your DVD movies.

DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc.

DVD Shrink will also burn your backup DVD, if you have installed the latest version of Nero. You can download a demo version of Nero here. If you already possess alternative burning software and prefer to stick with it, then you can still use DVD Shrink. The output from DVD Shrink can be saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn with software of your choice.

Operating System Support : Windows 9x/2000/XP

If any movie is giving you issues, people have had luck using DVD Decrypter which is another free program.

This works great. No problems what so ever with using it to make backup DVD's. You can do alot more tweaking with DVD shrink, ie... Deleting subtitles, Foreign overdubs, Closing credits, Previews, etc. I also have DVD XCopy and this works better, atleast I think so, than it. :)

DVD Shrink is 'the' app to have for DVD stuff.. That XCopy crap is for commericalized idiots.. no offense to anyone..

DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor are all I use for my DVD stuff. Shrink is an absolutely amazing program for being free, and is really easy to use. Go online, find a tutorial if you like, and you will be a pro in about 10 minutes!!

Highly recommended by this spoofee member!!! :)

DVD Shrink is way more fuctional and easy to use. Learned all the tricks in the first half an hour. I have not found any use for DVD Xcopy over DVDShrink.

I never tried DVD Shrink. I use a prg called dvd95copy. It cost 45.00$ but it works great. And has alot of features. Like removing un-wanted extra's. As soon the DUAL Layer Blanks go down to a cheap price we will not need to shrink anything anymore. :claps:

I love dvd shrink hands down one of the best out there i also like the mixed compressions you can lower the quality of the special features to get a higher quality on the main movie and i think its faster than DVDX copy also if you need you can make copys of backups witch you cant with dvdx copy it will also leave the most recent movie you copied in a folder in your computer witch again for some reason you want to make more backups you can after you have decripted the movie and have it in a folder you can directly burn it with nero and it only takes about 8 minutes depending on hardware and movie and you can select any numbet of copys desired with it just pop one disk after another well here is the best resource site i have found for it www.dvdshrink.info here if you go to guides they have virtual tutorials on howto do everything!!! also if you go to yesbuy you can buy blank dvd media for 34$ for 100 dvd's or wait till some show up free after rebate or something remember quality when you buy and some even have free shipping in the us now the better the dvd disk the longer it last and if its good enough you can back up a copy sometimes the drive cant read well enough to backup again also you can back up dvdx copy backups if you need to.

i have succsefuly made a backup in 38 minutes :D so have fun this is the best in my opinion i have a NEC dual layer 8x dvd burner and a p4 2.8 with 1 GB Ram

I use DVD2One most of the time because of the speed. I have DVDShrink for problem DVDs.

The one place where DVDShrink falls short is for "episodal DVDs". Namely things like MASH, 24, The West Wing. It compresses too much (lose of quality). For these I use a program called DVDFab (www.dvdidle.com) which lets you split the disc onto 2 blanks. It works great. Overall though, DVDShrink rocks!

BTW DVDShrink has always been free.

Version 3.2 lets you split episodic DVDs!

"Commericalized" idiots? Did it ever come across to you that maybe some people want their movies uncompressed? I never compress my DVD's unless I don't really care for the image quality of the movie I'm copying (which usually doesn't happen). However, the person above me did mention a program that copies DVD's AND splits them into two discs... That, in my opinion, is a better program than DVD Shrink.

But usually with DVD shrink after you remove all the useless garbage, subtitles, foreign languages, previews, etc... You do not need to compress the movie any more. I usually just burn the movie only and it works fine.

What am I missing ?????

How do I download this or request a disk. I have tried and get the run arround.

Go to http://www.doom9.org/ and download it. You can also download other dvd rippers if you are from a country other than the USA or its territories.

As far as I know, DVD Shrink has always been free so this is not really a special offer or deal but simply mentioning something for people who may not know. That makes me wonder why it was listed now rather than long ago as it has been around for ages. I thought that development had stopped on this software, but of course that has no bearing on how good it is.

This post is not meant as a complaint at all because I think it's good and fine that such things are pointed out on this site, but I guess I'm not used to thinking of it as a "deal". I'll have to adjust my mindset to remember that more than just discounts on retail merchandise can be found here.

If people are interested in a list of good freeware software for various purposes, I'm sure many of us could come up with other things as well.

Might we have a forum for free software downloads, legit not pirated??? I have many I would gladly share.

I've been using this program for quite some time now, and words cant describe how great it is.

One question, does anyone know if it will work for double-layer DVDs?
