eBay: 5 Free Insertion Fees Every 30 Days, starts 06/19/09

Wow! This may just be what I need to finally start selling off my stockpiles! No more excuses. I did sell that Logitech speaker system (Marlboro win) on Craigslist just yesterday. Hubby took it into the city and met the person at the Port Authority. Saved them the shipping, and I didn't have to pay eBay fees. And I got CASH. Now that was great, too.

just an FYI
if you haven't sold on ebay before, or it has been awhile.. take the time to read thru all the changes and new rules for seller.. there are a blue million of them. Ebay has changed alot.
one of the big ones is payments are held for 21 days on new sellers if you are also new to ebay [less than 6 months]and/or have little feedback [I think its 10].

If you want to do this and haven't used ebay before do yourself a favor & sign up now.
start buying even small things like coupons or books etc. to get your feedback numbers past the required number before you start selling so your payment won't be held.
Otherwise you are expected to either ship before you get your money or try to convince your buyer to wait 21 days for their item after payment.. good luck on that one.

Good luck to all that list items...

Yea usually anything over $50 will be held for new sellers. It also depends on what you sell (phones, giftcards, big ticket items) the money will be held as well. I dont really like the feature that the seller is not able to leave negative feedback for when a buyer isnt ideal. I think of negatives as a way to warn people, I sell giftcards on there, and I have been scammed once under this whole feedback revision. Had I been warned this could have been prevented.

I've had 3 in the past couple months get holds on less than 50.00 & that was for books, dog toys & coupons... so they are hitting alot more of them.. I just used the loophole. It's a risk, so I wouldn't do it on big ticket items.. if you go ahead & give positive feedback their funds are released so you get the items shipped normally. You can always add to your feedback with the response option
Bad thing is ebay & paypal don't tell the new seller in the notice that it's them & not the buyer causing the hold....
I agree on the feedback changes.. I hate them ... new sellers make sure you read thru the rules on these esp.. you can be banned for mistakes. you only have 2 choices.. good feeback or no feedback... you can not leave feedback [which is auto positive from a seller now] with a negative comment.. even if its a bad buyer they can file a complaint on you and win it.

Still if its something you can't use and you are willing to take a fraction of it's worth, it's extra money... the free lisings will help off set the final value fee, paypal per payment and percentage fees. This offer will be esp. good on items you don't want to list as starting at 99 cents.

I did check my eBay account, and I have 31 transactions. I will try to read up on the new rules, tho. But, I just saw an article in the paper about this, and unfortunately, they are charging more on the sales price to make up for the free insertion--8.75%/$20 max. That seems very high. I remember it being 5.25% for the first $25 and then 2.75% thereafter--but that was a few years ago. When I sold before, I never took credit or debit cards, but now it is not permissible to refuse them. I was never charged any fees (other than the final value fee) because I only took paypal not funded by Cr or Db cards, or money orders. I guess I have a lot to learn.

Ebay continues to frustrate, doesn't it? I have also seen an intersting new pattern with my buyers who will win one of my auctions and not pay till they absolutely have to~so you have 8 days after the auction before I can file an Unpaid item report and then an additional 7 before ebay will act on report , so I have seen more people paying me on day 14 with no negative effect to their account. Of course, with sellers only allowed to leave positive feedback everybody looks like a great customer.......

They should just blow up the entire feeedback system as it is now USELESS if it can only be positive and one way. I had customer that never paid and came back to leave ME negative feedback (which is allowed:rant:) because she was frustrated with Paypal , not me and only through her sheer ignorance didn't hit the negative button so I didn't take the permanent hit.

As you see, I could go on......:nonod:

^^^I totally agree that EVERYONE looks like a GREAT CUSTOMER with the feedback nowadays. What I do is I check those who I sell to, as I sell giftcards of high value on there, and I make sure they have RECENT transactions. But ebay does need to let us sellers give feedback other than positive. How else are we to warn other sellers ofa bad egg.

When did they raise their cut of the final value fees?

8.75% of the
closing value
or $20 for first
5 listings

That seems really unreasonable! No wonder prices have gone up on ebay. They are going to price themselves out of business. If they don't have any sellers, then they don't have a business.

They put it bluntly when they got flack on changing the feedback and fees.. they have enought sellers, esp. large stores and manuf. that have ebay stores now that loosing a few 100,000 sellers would not hurt them. That was a printed response[not verbatim] from their corp. Ebay has become such a large buisness that loosing the small sellers doesn't matter to them, they don't provide a large enough amount from the cut.
