Anybody sell on Ebay much? Is it better to start your item off at a low price so that more people start following it?

I have been watching other people sell my item, and it seems that people who start it at $0.99 get a higher ending bid than those who start at the $135 range, even though the item is consistently going for over $155.

Any hints before I list my item this week?

I have heard that you want to end the auctions on Sunday nights, because that is when a lot of people are home and have time to bid. Other than that, I really don't have a lot of experience with them.

I have lots of things I'd like to sell on ebay myself but need to take that initial plunge...:suspicious:....so who here is an ebay savvy seller?

It's really up to you what you want to do.
I've sold things that I didn't want to get rid of for cheap and started the bidding higher - I didn't care what other people were getting for the same item. It didn't matter to me if I had 15 bids or 3.

Right now eBay is offering (not sure if it's for everyone or not) free listing at any starting price, so I definitely would take advantage of listing at whatever price you want.

I've sold about 550 things and recently listed something with a starting price of $200 - I ended up with 3 bidders and was happy with what it sold for.

I could have started it cheaper but that doesn't mean it would have sold for more. It just got rid of those bidders that wanted something cheap and I was not willing to part with it for less.

Good luck with what ever you decide! :teeth:

For what it's worth, I am a Powerseller and Top Rated seller :star: (the biggest advantage is that I get a 20% discount off the Final Value Fee)

:loco:

oh, i soooo knew buzzer was going to hop on. Ask her about selling rocks.

Thanks so much Dbee! I think I'm reading too much into it. Probably safer to start at a higher bid.

Nice on the 20% discount for sure! Free listing sounds good though, so that definitely helps. I have a friend that is new to it and got the free listing, so I think it's for everybody.

Oh, and what's this about selling rocks?

I was (for reasons I cant disclose or I'll have to kill ya) looking at the haunted items and items with creepy stories and that crap was selling for a fortune...looked to me that some very creative people were selling junk and adding personality to the item and it was driving up the price...its the reason I have the crystal ball I have (don't ask, I tell you!!) and its old and chipped on a cool old bronze stand and was owned by a little old fortune teller who only drove it to church and back....wait that was another story....lol...if I sold stuff on ebay I would make it all have creepy or old romantic stories to go with them...like when ya people watch with friends and make up stories about people...I forgot what I was talking about....good luck!!

It truly depends on what you are selling on what you want the selling price to sell at. If I'm selling something that I only want to get ten dollars out of, I'll start bidding at 99 cents to 2.99 typically to get the interest going. I always see what similar items are selling for and how they were priced to start. Also, if you have an item that's not worth a whole lot...you might consider doing free shipping (obviously if it's fairly cheap to ship) and then start with the higher starting price. I think the free shipping entices a lot of people to get in on bidding. Rocks can be expensive to ship....

 rocks are very heavy to ship and smart to ship with Flat Rate Priority mail :faint:

I agree :yesnod: if it's not a bulky or a heavy item......I would consider free shipping :teeth:

:yikes: I thought I'd never have to set my eyes on those boulders again! :faint:

If what you're selling is something "people" want and you want to get a certain amount for it - start with that amount or you may end up displeased with the transaction.
