In short, eBay's raising their rates for sellers and eBay sellers are coming together to have no sales between 02/18 ~ 02/25.

I doubt this'll do anything, but I'll join it and make sure I don't buy or sell during those days :)

I read last week that sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for their buyers but buyers can leave any feedback they want. How frustrating! :mmph:

that is frustrating Sharon!! Makes me not want to sell on ebay for sure! What do you do if some loon buys up everything you are selling just to be an idiot? I have also seen people in the USA list they don't ship internationally yet someone overseas bids anyway without reading the auction, then wins it over a legitimate bidder (like me) how annoying is that?

I had a buyer leave feedback saying I was very slow to ship. I shipped his item the day after the auction ended but since it was media mail it took time to get to him. My auction clearly stated that the item would be shipped media mail and I only charged the actually shipping charges which was a couple bucks so I'm not sure what he was expecting but it really ticked me off. There is some serious idiots out there. :stupid:

I have seen negatives like that too, I am mainly a buyer on ebay and I check seller feedback and to see something like that peeves me off! If they wanted second day air, they needed to pay for it!

the email i received indicated that insertion fees were LOWERED, and gallery options were STANDARD. The only hike I noticed were in the Final Value Fees... Any thoughts...??

that's the same one I got too, rockstar. I'm a bit confused.

I had the same reaction as yourself, Rockstar but as the information has been unfolding it is a little alarming. I had read (scanned over) the initial announcement and was a little annoyed with sellers no longer able to leave anything but positive feedback for buyers with this new policy but it seemed rather positive with the listing fees/ gallery being reduced. Then as I began to look into it further I had other concerns such as being unable to find a direct link to what the FVF increases . Another concern I was made aware of by the CNN article is that they Ebay/Paypal can freeze the sellers money for (21) days if they (ebay/Paypal) view the transaction as "high risk":mmph:, I looked into what they deemed high risk and wasn't too alarmed at first as much of it made sense, but one of their random criteria was that if shipping and handling is deemed to be too high~what? So if you think my trinket is being shipped out at too high a rate (according to someone at ebay) I may not get my money for 21+ days!!

One school of thought is that ebay is trying to get rid of "hobbyists and small/home based sellers" and just deal with large sellers/liquidators and this does make it feel like that.

I have sold on ebay for a long time and used what little money I made to pay for my daughter's medications, etc.. and I can tell you that every year it has been harder to show a little profit at the end of a month with ebay getting a bigger and bigger slice from the listing, FV fees and their cut from the Paypal end. I hope that things are not as bad as they are being presented and I am unsure if a strike will help or have any impact on such a big business.

So sad to see we little guys getting pushed up against it, yet again.:ohwell:

I dunno, I tend to buy from smaller sellers because their shipping is lower, it's the large liquidators that charge $20 shipping and add handling to it to justify it. Of course freezing their funds for 21 days probably wouldn't hurt them as much.

If ebay is going to change the fees they need to do do something about sellers that charge .99 for an items and then charge $10 - $12 S&H. If they figured out how to close that loop hole they would be able to lower fees and still pull in more $$. When I sell stuff on ebay I let the user enter there zip code to see how much shipping will be for them. I tack on an extra $2 to make sure I don't get screwed over on the shipping though...

I agree Kage, and sweetwinter I think this is what they're aiming to stop w/that freeze. (You referenced the abnormally high shipping rate clause) It always makes me angry when I see sellers pulling s7!t like that. I purposely won't buy from them. There's nothing wrong w/a reasonable handling charge added on to the shipping, but when it's obvious that it's been inflated to avoid other fees it's just wrong.

Exactly!! Ebay claims it wants to combat price gouging disguised as (high) shipping and last year added a link on every auction where you can report that auction for ridulous shipping and they would suspend the auction/seller if infractions persisted. HA! I reported one auction for a milk bottle cap~small, round, cardboard) listed with $12.00 shipping...first class, no insurance included.....nothing. I watched that seller for a while as all his items had INSANE shipping. Never a suspension, auctions rolled on. I know I sound bitter but I think as long as ebay posts its big profits they could care less about the users.

On one of the loops that I am on, they just sent a mass email saying the strike starts on the 11th...

I think if you really want to make a difference, then you should leave ebay all together until they change their changes.

What is this eBay you are all talking about???

I just looked and there are plenty of people selling and bidding... It doesn't look like much of a boycott.
Are you boycotting? I personally do very little business on EBAY. I mainly buy coupons.

With over 96 million registered users, a boycott would most likely only be evident to ebay. If the boycott has any impact (which I sadly doubt) it will be ebay noticing it in their listing totals.

OMG $4050.00 for a pretzel. That can't be for real.... but look at the bids
