Here is the way it would go at our local CompUSA:
1800:10s hours
Me: Um why is the shelf empty where the 300 Gig drives are supposed to be?
Dude: We are waiting for them to unload the truck.
Me: Could you grab me one so that I can get out of here? There is a tropical storm coming.
Dude: (staring at another customer that has breasts) I have to wait on customers and I can't leave the floor. (leaves).
1815 hours - I go to the customer service desk
Me: I would like this hard drive that you have on sale (shoves the print ad on counter)
Gurl: I'll look it up (bangs on the CompUSA keyboard), we don't have any.
Me: Could you check in the back and see if they came in yet?
Gurl: (grabs a radio/phone from her pocket and speaks in an unknown language to someone) They gonna look for one and bring it up. (leaves).
1830 to 1845 hours - Service counter is empty and no one brings up a hard drive from the back. I walk back to the entrance to the warehouse and pick out the person that was speaking the same language as the "Gurl".
Me: Hello. I'm looking for this (points to the print ad with the hard drive circled in red ink).
Xnarg: (says something in some unknown language, takes the print ad and leaves. He returns with a box and gives it to me).
Me: That's great, but why does it have a forklift hole in the box?

hahahahahahaha

i hate compusa they never have the products and have the ****est service

Items which are "fashionable" like a 300 gig HD, a Pre-N router, Dual channel memory, or some such may be tough to get unless you are willing to get there for Day1.

Items which are no longer the newest or the most fashionable will probably still be available. I got a 160 gig Seagate 2 weeks ago at BB. On a Saturday night no less after being on sale all week. There were 6 on the shelves.

This is the shopping game, it has rules, you play by the rules and you win.

Rule #1 is if the item is 'hot' be at the door at opening - otherwise you lose.

Rule #2 is a little gentle schmoozing, and sweet sugary talk with the store people will get you results every time. Don't whine or again you lose.

Most BB and CUSA employees are 20somethings. If there is one characteristic of 20yo's it is they like to be helpful. Let them do what they like doing which is to be helpful, or once again you lose.

I picked up the 300 gig hard drive this evening after work. They had plenty in stock. But..

the Harddrives didn't have a sale tag on the shelf (had to get the flyer and match the sku's) strangely most of the other hard drives on sale did.

When I checked out. the price rang up at 119.99 (not the 129.99 listed on the flyer) the instant rebate was only $10. After discussing with the cashier why it was only $10 off did I notice the $10 price difference on the ring up.

then after several long reciepts, with the info to go online to get the $50 rebate. I get home to find that the online rebate is for $40 not $50. I call the store and they tell me that one of those long reciepts is an additional mail in rebate for $10 to make the full $50 as advertised.

Which I suppose in the end is all well and good. But they sure as heck don't make it easy for the average consumer to get the advertised rebate.

ElectricPickle, you obviously did not count on TheRingWraithe working at CompUSA. ;)
