It's $300 because you don't have to program this remote. You can simply download the data into the remote and you are on your way. It also has a learning feature where you can point the original remote at it and it will learn and program itself.

The wireless extender is used so you can hide all your dvd/vcr/cable/surround amplifier into a cabinet with the wireless extender installed. What it does is the remote will emitt a RF frequency instead of your tradition IR (which you need a line of sight) to the wireless extender and from there the wireless extender will emitt the IR signal to your device.

Basically anything that uses a remote, this can control it. Fans, AC, Garage door... etc... you name it!

Also, it looks sexy.

I'm not familiar with this model, but if it's like others from the Hamony line, it also allows you to define complicated macros involving commands from more than one device. For example, suppose in order to watch a DVD, you need to perform the following:

turn on the dvd player
turn on the receiver
change the receiver input to "Optical Digital"
turn on the television
change the television input to "component video"
Eject the dvd tray

you can program the remote to do all of that, in order, in a single keystroke.

This is not without its problems. For instance, what happens if the tv set is already on when you hit the button? Well, in theory, the remote is smart enough to realize that the tv is already on and omit that step. In practice, it doesn't always work that way.

I already have a "super" remote that came with my pre-amp but it needs line of sight and my audio cabinet faces away from the sectional. This would have been cool. Price is up about $200 from the spoofee deal so now it is of no interest.
