(EXPIRED) - Maxtor MaxLine Pro 500GB SATA Hard Drive for $109.99 Shipped

Good Deal... Just bought 2 of em this bumps my current PC to 1.66 TerraBytes of storage. Don't really need that much but its for the future.

i think it comes with a 5 year warranty, pretty nice.

Maxtors work great for RAID configurations. I'm using an external eSATA drive for system backup space instead of my tape drive. HDD space has become so much cheaper than tape storage and it is SOOOOO much faster. This is really a great deal.

How easy would it be to use this drive as an external HD, assuming you had or acquired an external case/HD kit?

Easy as pie. Install the drive into the case, plug in the power source, plug the USB or FW cable into your machine, and youre done! (you might need drivers)

5tb

Sweet. I just picked up 10 of them (5 TB) for $1099. Since Seagate acquired Maxtor, I think (hope) they have the wonderful Seagate 5-year warranty. Now to find a good MB/CPU combination and RAID controller to build a file server -- anyone have recommendations? :)

how's the build quality on these maxline pro models? i vowed not to buy maxtor anymore b/c i've had two older ones crap out on me. i just stuck with WD or seagate after that. but this is looking really tempting.

I too vowed never again to buy a Maxtor drive ... between myself, family, friends, etc. I have replaced 5-6 maxtor drives that have shelled out ... Other than that I've only ever had 1 Western Digital drive shell out, and never had problems with a Seagate.

That being said I bit on this deal ... I am hoping that the fact that this is a pro line, and that Seagate bought Maxtor will make this a little more reliable. That being said I've seen reviews on NewEgg saying that about 1 out of 5 are bad :worry: I guess its worth the risk - can always exchange it when it goes bad (within 5 years). Just be sure to back up any important data in another location also.

I too have had too many Maxtor's die.
I passed....

fyi...
NewEgg has the 16mb version for an extra 25 bucks

Same here, I pass on Maxtor. Two died on me. One is less than 1 year old. I had older Samsung or WD that is still running.

i have a 300GB Maxtor HD and its been over 1 yr w/o any problems. So i ordered this one for $109.99.

The Price went up to $119.99 if you guys check the link again

Has anyone received a confirmation email? If they changed the price to $119.99, then there might be a chance they won't honor this. :(

Yeah I have confirmation... my 2 have already shipped at the 109.99 price

i've check the link and it's $109. i'm tempted but i just got a wd 500g. i know a lot of people here haven't had the best of luck with maxtor but i've been using them for years and i only ever had one died on me but that was after a few years of use. maxtor is always my first choice but i'm probably the only that thinks that.

Yep, I got the confirmation email for $1099.99. I just checked and they still have it listed for $109.99. NewEgg has the same drive for $134. I'm putting 8 of these into a couple RAID-5 stripes and keeping the other two for hot spares; I figure the odds of losing 2 at the same time are high enough to warrant it. hopefully I don't lose 3 at a time. :)
