You beat me to, I was just about to post this, but searched first and saw you already had. (People do sometimes read the "Forum Rules" and follow rule #7)
I signed up for SunRocket about two weeks ago on a similar promotion. Signed up online on a Saturday, had the hardware by Tuesday. Took less than 15 minutes to set-up and activate.
Sound quality is no different than my old SBC/AT&T landline. They recommend using cordless phones, but if you disconnect your old incoming phone line at your "network interface" (where the outside wires enter your home) and plug a phone wire from their unit to any phone jack, your old corded phones will work. Make sure you wrap electrical tape around the disconnected network interface phone wire plug and put a note in there saying don't reconect, otherwise a phone company technician could mess things up. Has enough power to make two or three corded phones ring, but if you have more extensions than that might have problems.
I'm in process now of transfering my old landline phone number, and they also give you one additional phone number. It's not a second line, just a second number that rings to your same phone. What good is this? The second number can be from almost anywhere in the country. So while I live in Ohio, I've chosen a second number in Florida, so my parents can call me as a local call. Could also set this up for kids away at college (though that would just make it easier for them to phone home and ask for money
) First extra number is free, more are $3/month each.
Some people have conerns about how 911 works with this, looks like there may be a two to four week perios where your address might not read thorugh to an Enhanced 911 service.
They also recommend avoiding this service If you have alarm systems or TiVo.
Looks like all the VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocal) providers are fighting for market share. Vonage ads are all over the TV offering a similar service for $24.99 per month. Sunrocket seems to have decided to use price as their marketing strategy.
