food allergies

this is just me being nosy and curious...

it seems that recently more and more people are being diagnosed with food allergies, so do any of you have any food allergies or sensitivities??


i'm allergic to gluten (a protein found in wheat) and apples.

Here I was raised on seafood all of my longggg life. About eight years ago, out of the blue, I developed a severe allergy to shellfish. Difficult for me living on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay! I am also lactose intolerant. A few other sensitive food items round out my dilemma. :(
 
I think I am allergic to coconut. My throat swells up and itches like crazy. I still love pina coladas though.

That would be celiac disease. It not only runs but gallops in my family. My Dad had had it since about 18yo & some of his siblings got it at about ~50 yo, my younger bro recently got diagnosed (almost gave it away Big Daddy :p) and my cousins kids have it as well. So far, so good for me.

with so many people in your family i'm sure you know how restrictive the gf/cf diet can be and i hope you never have to deal with this, because it can be a royal pain in the rear!

It really isn't that bad. IF you need a 'pasta' fix, there's plenty of rice bread mixes and other grains that can be used. It's kind of like the Atkin's diet actually. You could live on it quite comfortably. It beats taking the sulphur drugs that my Dad's been taking for years.....

It's actually become more 'popular' (so to speak) and there's lots of companies that are marketing 'gluten free' products.

Sorry you have to deal with this and thanks, I hope it skips past me too!
 
When I was a kid I was allergic to chocolate, eating it would cause migraines. Thank God I grew out of that! Now I just get the migraines from stress.
 
I'm a allergic to walnuts.
Kadin is allergic to cashews that we know of. Not really willing to try out any other nuts to see...One scary, swollen trip to the hospital is enough for me!
 
I'm allergic to a TON of foods including corn, wheat, onions, soy, and a bunch of others my wife could name off. Since moving from a very polluted area, though, the allergies have died down quite a bit and I am able to eat more of the food items without too much repercussion.
 
I can eat dairy products but when I drink milk, eat ice cream or a milkshake, it tears my stomach up. Think I am lactose sensitive.
The mint flavoring in toothpaste makes me sneeze. Didn't before.
 
I think its psychosomatic, but Im allergic to pecans. I think after so many years of hating the taste of them so much, I convinced myself I Was allergic, and now I get mild symptoms if I eat them. No other nuts, though.

Im glad though.. Now I never have to eat another stinking pecan in my life. (although I will eat a small small piece of my mom's pecan pie)
 
From the South and allergic to pecans???
 
Like I said.. I think its all in my head. I just dislike them sooo much. And I dont like Gumbo either.
