I was driving around today and the Radio Chick had a very intriguing topic, one I've never heard of. Apparently, in NY it is coming to pass (perhaps?) that you can have the gender changed (not ammended) on your birth certificate! According to what she said...no re-assignment operation is needed...just proof that the person has lived as the stated gender for 2 years and obtains a physician's letter. I just thought this was a strange concept...somewhat re-writing history....

When I applied for a new license a couple years ago in Massachusetts they asked both questions -- had I changed my name or gender since previous license was issued?
I was tempted to answer yes to the second, just to see what would happen but I controlled myself.

I just find this raises so many questions/issues.

If you are arrested, hospitalized...where do they put you? Which has presidence, your body parts or your birth certificate?

If and accident or murder takes place on a Jane/John Doe.....do they now search both male and female missing records?

We all know sometimes private parts can be seen in restrooms....how do we explain the differences to our children if we are supposedly in a 'same sex' rest room? Do we now have to check birth certificates to make sure you are in the proper restrooms??

I just think this is such an odd thing....

(Once when there was a wicked long ladies' room line, and noone inside the gents', I told my hubby to be the lookout, while I dashed in & out of the Men's room. Well, sure enough, I was ensconced in a stall, when I see HUGE shoes and a big loud guy come in and use the urinal a few inches away on the other side of the partition. I waited holding my breath and trying to be invisible until he finally left, then came out and yelled at my husband: "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO WATCH FOR ME !!!!!" . . He said, "I was watching". . What on earth was he thinking I meant!! . I just don't get men sometimes.... )
