I've tried them all, and as far as I'm concerned Spybot Search & Destroy works the best. Best of all, it's free. :-)

Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is quite good as well, and their free version does the job just fine without limiting you.

Hope that helps someone,

I have all 3 installed and Bazooka found stuff the others did not. But I agree Spybot is an excellent program. :)

SpyBot SD and Ad-Aware work very well together. Spybot finds items that Ad-Aware misses, and Ad-Aware finds items that SpyBot misses. I will definitely try that third proggie. Thanks

This tool is absolutely terrible. I can't believe anybody would choose this over Ad-Aware or SpyBot.

Free - Anti-Spyware - Spybot Search and Destroy

Spybot Search and Destroy is a freeware that will fight the spywares on your computer and has great reviews from Sofotex, WinPlanet, ZDNET (Editor's Choice), etc. If you are having random popups, getting favorites you never added, computer's slower than before, etc. you probably have spyware. Download it free here.

I use this program on every computer I repair. Works wonders, and gets rid of at least 80-90% of spyware on any computer I run it on.

I use this at my work to disinfect computers. Works great! I love how the program can be proactive as well. You might as well get SpywareBlaster as well. You can click the link from the Immunize page on Spybot or you can click here:

I've found I need to use both ad-aware and spybot to clean my systems. Then I have to look up the newest stinkers in google. I've gotten pretty good at it but cleaning a system can take 1-4 hours, including the time for ad aware and spybot to run.

Spyware doesn't just sneak in via your browser. It loves to come in with other programs you install these days. For example, a woman I work with installed one of those shareware screensavers a few days ago. Along with the screen saver she also got a handful of spyware, etc that just happened to make her computer go a little haywire.

Well yeah, I mean any knowledgable person like you or I knows what to look for in programs that may have spyware.

I know that some of these people have no idea, but I'm just saying that since I know how to watch out for programs with spyware and because I use Mozilla Firefox, I never have a problem.

Spoofeetim, I only saw 30-day trial versions of Grisoft's AVG anti-virus on their web page. Where do you get the free version you mentioned?

I like spybot best. Seems to catch more for me then the free version of ad-aware and also is proactive. But if you pay for the full version of ad-aware its a tough comparison. To each his own.

This program is so good I would even consider sending in a donation

I use this program to scan problem computers along with a free anti-virus webscan from www.trendmicro.com. Both of these programs together have resolved major issues

I like Spybot S&D best, with all the extra tools and such. However I've found Ad Aware to be a more frequent updater and has its own strengths. Right now I run them both on all systems I'm maintaining at work. Together they are almost as good as (paid-for) Pest Patrol, and no false postives yet.
