Stopped using Norton Anti-Virus over a year ago and downloaded this instead. It has been great! Just be sure to do the updates when directed, so that you will have the most current viruses covered. It can even be configured to scan your e-mails (which is does very quickly).

The computer tech that comes to our office told me that it is probably all the virus protection that a home user needs.

Highly recommend this product!!!!

Awesome for people who use windows...I'm a Linux user so no use to me but awesome post!

I use this as my Antivirus it's great. Highly recommended.

I have been using this for years. Excellent Product!!!!!

it's been free for years for home users.
nothing new about this deal, except to push up Ronshere post count.
btw it's a good product. not an excellent one. it has an old clunky interface which has not been changed in years.
compared to resource hog norton, yes its' easyer on the machine. scans almost just as slow as norton too
it was ether computer world or pc world that did a side by side eval of ten ant-virus's this past spring. avg was in the not in the top five.

Bet it would have been in the top five of FREE anti-viruses.

Most people will be glad to have the option of NOT paying a $20-$40 yearly fee.

There's no prize at the end of the rainbow for the most posts.
There isn't?

I own a computer business and recommend AVG to my clients. It sure beats making your wallet skinnier.

From the posts here it looks like there is something about anti-virus programs that gets people in a fever! I hope it isn't contagious and spreads to the other threads. Well, there I go shooting off my mouth and running up my post count! LOL

I can't recall getting any virus' since I installed AVG two and a half, maybe three years ago. Using AVG, Sygate free firewall (kinda hard to find these days), and windows defender, has seemed to be the magic combo for me. AVG = A really great product... imho.

I am using AVG after being a faithful Norton user for many, many years. Each year I'd get the newest version of Norton Internet Security--free after rebates, of course. But NIS 2006 seemed to have problems. Something--it may have been when I got Windows updates--would cause it to crash. I'd have to unload not only NIS, but any other Norton products, and then clean from my Registry the references that uninstall missed. The last straw was when my then-working and fully up-to-date NIS apparently allowed a persistent trojan through. It took two days to finally subdue it and have this machine clean.

So, the NIS 2006 disc and book have been set aside for possible future use for a competitive upgrade and AVG has thus far been great protection.

Um, my post count just went up by one, right?

I was actually using AVG for a few months, and if you don't mind their add- added to the bottom of your e-mails, its pretty good for the cost.

But..
Check your internet provider. I know a lot of ISPs give out Firewall and Virus Protection for free.

For Example, Cablevision gives EZ Armor (Computer Associates) 2005 for free. Yah, its a year old, but you know what, the price is right!!
Its built on the ZoneLabs firewall, so its something that I was familiar with anyway..

So, check your ISP for freebies too!!

Thanks.

Keep up the good work.:bigok:

(better?)

Ive been using Avast for about 2 years. Its completely automatic. No ads or other crap to deal with. nice.
