If you boycott BP locally all you're doing is killing local small businesses and their employees who are your neighbors. Boycott BP = destroying local jobs.

i know this is just a post for a freebie....but if you boycott them....damage them financially .....how do they pay for the clean up?

just my opinion...but I seriously doubt they would feel the financial pinch of being boycotted. They wouldn't close any stores....they're rich. "Filthy" rich ...I feel so bad for the little animals, especially Louisianna's (sp) state bird, so sad.

Hey it's up to them to decide to keep their affiliation w/ BP or not! In fact several BP's here in NE florida are considering changing their affiliation! That's one way to kill BP w/out our local jobs!

Where can I get a sticker

To boycott Obama? He's making a bigger mess of this than BP is!

The birds have a better chance of avoiding the oil than any human being has of avoiding any of BP's products. They don't just make gas. Their oil is also used to make plastic. Probably the plastic in your computer. Although I don't support BP in any way, it is just a futile attempt to think you can boycott this company.

Many are contracted to keep selling BP gas and have no choice. There was a story on NPR yesterday about a couple who own a BP station and are contracted until 2020 and are already borrowing money to pay the bills. Much longer and they will certainly lose their business - so this IS hurting local jobs.

So not true. You can still got to a store that sells BP gas and buy other products. Station owners tell you that they don't make squat off of gasoline anyways, so you aren't hurting them if that's true by not buying gas from them. They can get out of their contracts to sell BP gas; some stations already have. It's kind of like boycotting Procter and Gamble - you can go to Target and Walmart and buy other products, just not theirs. BP does NOT own their gas stations, so you can go and buy stuff their - just not their gas.

BP took numerous safety shortcuts to save money at the costs of AMERICAN lives, and ended up killing 11 AMERICANS. BP is British Petroleum; that were taking advantage of OUR resources and selling it back to us - it may be American oil, but they don't give a crap about Americans and the profits were going back to another country. Buy Valero and Sunoco -AMERICAN companies.

wow. Thank you for signing up and giving us this great message.

It's a great message. I wish I could boycott the 45 cents per gallon (average low for Florida) Government gasoline tax but I can't. As people use less gas and buy less gas the Government increases it's tax to make up for the shortfall. We have to do without - the Government, not so much. Included in this tax is a tax/fee for environmental inspection purposes (5 cents per barrel tax for the Water Quality Assurance Trust Fund, 80 cents per barrel for the Inland Protection Trust Fund). Shouldn't that money go towards the cleanup?

What many people do not realize is that regardless of what name is on a fuel station, they all share gasoline products. Shell stations use fuel from Valero, BP, Marathon, Exxon etc. The only thing that changes is that specific additives are added per the spec requirement of different companies. You can not boycott a particular oil company by boycotting the fuel station bearing its logo. For what its worth, I live on the Louisiana coast and have worked as a fisherman and in the petrochemical industry. Along with tourism these are the largest economic engines in southern Louisiana. BP has destroyed the fisheries and forced Obama's hand in the moratorium on drilling. The entire situation has debilitated our tourism industry as much of that was for charter boat fishing expeditions and hunting in the marshes. A triple strike right through the heart.

I'd rather boycott Obama for his Obamaban on drilling. What kind of 'tard is he? Thanks America!

Also remember that many of us probably have mutual funds with BP stock, so "don't shoot yourself in the foot" as they say. I'd rather have them stay in business so they can make money to continue fixing their mess.

LMAO at "continue fixing their mess". They may be one organization that is more incompetent thatn the government, and they lie even more. The purpose of the boycott is that it will force someone to get in there that does not have a vested financial interest in it and that knows what they are doing. Right now, anyone would be better than BP.

I love the fact that since Obama decided to man up, well... sort of man up, more like stop being a mousy little wuss about the issue... the Brits have begun to make public statements that basically boil down to "Don't try to place the blame where it truly belongs, especially via harsh words toward us in the media... just work on forcing us to half-assedly clean up our mess because holding us fully accountable in public view for this huge debacle will hurt our relationship.". What a joke. If we had done this to them the entire world would be ready to slit our throats on live TV but good old America is supposed to be everyone's parent and just suck up all the BS abuse with a smile, while cleaning up someone else's mess in silence.
