Free Excel Budget Program

Maybe I'm being a little paranoid here, but this might not be a good idea. First of all, it seems to be something that could easily be done on paper! Second of all, it is a beta version of a program, so there would be no guarantee of accuracy. Website says very little about who has created the program, etc. I would say...download at your own risk.

I created PearBudget. You should try it.

The program to download isn't a beta. It's a spreadsheet, created in Excel. It's been around for about four years, and should have any kinks ironed out. I certainly haven't received any e-mails with problems in the last year or two. The beta (for the web-based version) hasn't launched yet.

Could you do your budget on paper? Sure. You could also never send e-mail, opting to send all correspondence by mail. The point of it being a spreadsheet is that it does the bulk of the analysis for you. Really, using PearBudget, you can update your budget during the commercial breaks of your favorite TV show, and that'd be it for the week. It's really, really, easy. And it's free.

If you don't want to download it, then don't. But it's not dangerous, and I have no motives in offering it other than that it worked exceptinally well for me as I got my personal finances under control, and I wanted to make it available to the general public.

If anybody has questions about it, post them here and I'll try to respond.

Thanks.

Charlie

Is this allowable on this forum..its:confused: not like it's a free item you recieved. Its more a program that anything else, and I would be afarid to download anything when it does not tell you who or where it is found, <not so well known?> I feel these could be avenues for some hacker to gain access to computer. has anyone else downloaded this?

You people are goofy. If you're that concerned about it, wait until later this year, and you can use the web-based version. It'll still be free, and you'll be able to access it from any computer in the world that has an internet connection. No need to download anything.

But, yes, it's safe.
