Free K7.net Voicemail/Fax Number - Listen to your Messages via email or website

This is a great service, I use it myself and I am in NY state. They will give you a (206) area code number VOICEMAIL/FAX number, but the cool thing is they send all your faxes/messages to your email address, or you can log into their website to get your faxes/messages.

1a. For a free Voicemail/FAX number go to: http://fusion.kallback.com/k7/

or

1b. Use this link and you can serch for a specific number if you want, all the numbers are in area code 206, but you can search for your last 4 digits of you regular phone number if you want to make it easier to remember: http://fusion.kallback.com/k7/vanity.cfm

Just so people understand:

Calls made to your K7 number are long distance for people outside the Seattle area. These calls will incur normal long distance charges from the long distance carrier used by the sender.

It is totally free, you only pay long distance if you want to call the number to set your own greeting. The voicemail/faxes can only be picked up via email or by logging into their website. I use this as my FAX and PHONE number for freebies and other stuff also, works great.

I've been using this service for probably about a year. Used it as a private line for whatever before I got my cell phone service. Great service as you can't get free toll free or local numbers like you used to, but this is the next best thing. No advertising, and a pretty good interface. I like how it cleanly sends your faxes in .TIF format to your e-mail and your voicemails in .WAV. It's a very stripped, easy and plain service without stupid advertising. You can even set up your greeting if you have free long distance on your cell phone like I did.

Even though you can't get free toll free or local numbers anymore, this is the next best thing and it works great as a fax or voicemail for someone who can't afford a phone line or cell service.

Is there a decent program with a local number for the Dallas/Fort Worth Area?

Not for free, no.
