Saab USA is giving a brand new Saab for owners of an old Saab with 1 million miles. There are several requirements though, like original owners only, and USA Saab only etc.

Definitely a hot deal for loyal Saab fans. Thanks Anthoj!

has anyone ever seen any car with 1 million miles on it?

I've seen a VW bug with 1 million. Documented.

wooo

i can only imagine how many people are driving the bejeezus out of their sabs at the moment lol.. hrm wonder how much money in gas it would take..

How do you know it went 1M? There isn't an odometer that does that much on it.

my mother-in-law has a 1974 Mercedes diesel. owned
since new. last time I looked, it had close to 990,000
miles on it. still the original engine/transmission. it still
drives great for a 32-year-old car. shouldn't take more
than a few month to push it over 1,000,000 miles.

perhaps I'll write to Mercedes-Benz USA to see if they'll
match Saab's offer. :) All Mercedes ever did was award
her some mileage badge for the car's grill.

SAAB with a million miles

There was a 1 million-mile saab at the Detroit auto show this year...it was a 1986 hatchback. The owner supposedly talked to saab about it and that is what started the whole exchange-your-old-one-million-mile-car-for-a-new-car program. It had the original turbo engine and a bunch of other original parts. I thought it was in surprisingly good condition.

Aaaannd I'm done babbling.

Heck If I had a car that had gone that far, I might just keep instead of a new one!

yea.. . that would be so funny... if you have your car for 30-40 years with no problems, trade it in for a 2007 ... and start having problems? ... replacement parts would kill you...

is saab still under the same parent company... ? ...

You can tell by maintenance reports state inspections for states that have them. It's public info and that's where carfax gathers their data (and carfax is not always accurate, but most of the time they are).

Since 1998 the British aerospace company BAE Systems have been the largest shareholder in Saab following its acquisition of a 35% stake from Investor AB by its predecessor, British Aerospace. From January 2005 BAE has reduced its shareholding to 20%, which it views as a long term interest. Investor AB also maintains a 20% share.

anyone with a saab close to 1 mil stick it on blocks and finish it out in a couple days

Actually, it was an '89, 900 SPG (2-door hatchback, factory souped-up turbo engine), it was some guy in Wisconsin who was a salesman and travelled a lot... obviously. Only reason I remember the particulars is because I had an '87 900 Turbo that I killed in at 170K miles after driving it for 65K miles. Turns out things break when you turn the turbo up past where it was really meant to be. Fun while it lasted...

VERY good shape for 1M miles: http://www2.jsonline.com/multimedia...ne.com/graphics/news/img/dec06/saab120506.jpg

For a 30-year-old car to have 1,000,000 miles it would have to be driven at a rate of 33,333 miles per year. That's not impossible, but it's certainly high mileage. The onwer would have to be really nitpicky about care car and maintenance. All I can say is if you are driving a vehicle that has more than 150,000 miles on it, it could only mean:

1) You are very nostalgic when it comes to cars.
2) You don't have enough money to get a new car.
3) You're ok with the degradation of fuel efficiency and aging parts.
4) Your car is a classic and is worth more than the newer models.
5) It never occurred to you that technology has advanced, and newer cars are safer and more comfortable.
6) You have no problem absorbing hate from other drivers as your car breaks down in the middle of the highway during rush hour.

For all the folks driving beatup clunkers, please do the public a favor and retire the old piece of crap. Cars are getting cheaper now....... why go through life driving miserably????

Wonder if anyone is doing the car trick that Ferris Bueller tried to get his father's car to reverse mileage.

Because some of us have spouses that do not work (my wife stays home to raise our children), so my income pays for all our bills including my college tuition.

Just because some manufacturers have some vehicles that are "cheaper now," does not necessarily mean that my family and I can afford to get a new vehicle.
