Free Service Private Phone: disconnecting Dec. 15th ~ Alternate FREE suggestions

I wanted to post this in the Freebies section because I know alot of us have a number from PrivatePhone.com (for when we're filling out forms for freebies) but looks like we'll need to get a new number by Dec.15h. *sigh*

...I'm going to miss my number (and I actually was able to remember it! lol)

Darn.
:mmph:

Thanks for the heads-up note. I feel the same way!

That really stinks! There must be a similar service out there.

I just started using GrandCentral.com and so far I really like it. It's free, but you can't just sign up... you have to request a number first. They sent me my invite in about 2 days after I requested a number.

You could always give the Rejection Hotline number
That was my standby before Private Phone.

not that i've ever given it to a person of course

Hey, Starsmoak!
Thanks for the tip on GrandCentral.com I went to the site and put in my request. Perhaps by the time PrivatePhone goes belly-up, GrandCentral will have more available numbers. The following is what I received:

"Your Reservation Has Been Confirmed

Thank you for your interest in GrandCentral. We will let you know as soon as we open up our service to more users. At that time you will be able to choose the specific phone number that you would like to use. We will make all possible efforts to ensure there are numbers in the area code or city you have selected, but there may be some areas where we won't have coverage. We'll do our best.

The Grand Central Team"

Thanks for the suggestions Starsmoak. I have updated the first post. If anyone else has any other services they are aware of, please post here and I'll update again.

I may be wrong but I thought I seen a post made sometime last week about private phone closing and there were some other places listed in that thread. I am pretty sure it was in this forum but I did a search and cant find it? Does anyone know where this thread is?

I've been using GrandCentral for a week now, and I concur. It's a really good service. (If anyone out there needs invitations for GrandCentral, please PM me. I still have several invitations left.)

The other service I've been trying lately is jConnect. So far, so good. The downside is that the phone number they assign you is not local; mine is a in Toledo, Ohio number. You can pay a fee if you'd like a local number.

Another thing I like about jConnect is that it allows you to accept faxes online. This really came in handy earlier this week when a client had to fax me a work order! So far I'm happy with jConnect, and I do recommend it.

I have been using RingCentral's VoiceMail for a while. You get so many free minutes per month. I think it's 30 min. If you go over, it doesn't accept any messages until the next month and resets at 30 min again.

I have a privtephone account. Nothing was sent to me or anything about them shutting down. How does one find out this info?

I didn't get any emails either. When I logged into my account, there is an FAQ about it under Help, NetZero Voice.

I signed up via invitation (Thank you to whomever sent it!! :bigok: ) for GrandCentral but when I press the "Call" button to call my phone so that I can verify my confirmation code, it doesn't call my phone.

Anybody else have/having this problem as well?

I ddin't have any problems with mine. I had the call sent to my cell and received it immeidatley.

Question about GrandCentral

I am having a problem with activation. It calls, I try to enter the number by keypad and it tells me, sorry your having trouble, we just sent you an email. But the email doesn't come. I can't find any way to contact anyone about this either, unless I'm overlooking something.

I know this is probably not the right place, but if anyone knows something, I'd greatly appreciate it.
