That is certainly a better deal if you plan on filing electronically because TaxCut Deluxe gives you the federal e-file FAR. :)

Do they still offer the FAR e-filing? I wasn't able to tell.

FYI I've been using TaxCut for years (and I'm a CPA). :o

This will give you a comparison.

Thanks for the info! I wish I would have taken advantage of Best Buy's offer a couple weeks ago. Buy TaxCut and get a free CD worth up to $14.99. :(

Oh well. This is still a great post for people in states without income taxes (e.g., Nevada).

which is better Turbotax or Taxcut? I find turbotax more easier to understand based on my past experience. anyways, tax lingo is still greek and latin to me.

Anyways, this is interesting for those with vanilla tax information, no complications:

I don't think it makes a difference (at least from my point of view). I've used both. Last year, it was Taxcut.

Speaking of Taxcut, I actually received a new Taxcut Standard CD-ROM, free of charge, in the mail last month. It must've been because I had purchased it last year and turned in the rebates for it. :D

Keep in mind that when getting your free Taxcut standard from the website above, if you opt for the CD-ROM version, you have to pay extra for S&H ($5.95). Unless, of course, you go for the download version, which is completely free :)

Turbo tax for simplicity

I have used tax software for last 5 yrs. To me, Turbo tax seems simpler than TaxCut. Turbo feels more like an interview where the software asks you questions and fills forms based on your answers. Taxcut seems to require a little knowledge on your part. Usually around now the rebate specials really start firing up, so unless you are in a hurry, keep watching the Sunday ads, and kepp eyes open for a great bundle. (then post it here of course!)

Taxslayer

Another good one is taxslayer.com

I've used them for the past 3 years. They always seem to get me more cash back than taxcut. Best thing is it's only $9.95 for the e-file and they e-file your state at the same time for free, so your total cost is less than 10 bucks!!!

You can also find this free program in the current issue of PC Magazine. :D

Here in Colorado, the state has a web site that offers you free filing on-line (State filing). The IRS homepage also offers for those with an adjusted gross income of 50,000 or less free filing.

We've used Taxslayer too and have been very happy with them. We also get our refund direct deposited (I think we might pay an additional fee for this) so it's usually in the bank in 2-4 weeks. Plus they allow you to get updates of the status of the refund. Very convenient and much better than waiting and waiting and waiting for a paper check to arrive!

On Monday I started the downloads but canceled to take of some other chores. Today I can't find a downloadable clickable, just the free if you pay shipping. Anyone have the link for the free download?
