Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a site that offers free or very cheap ($10/year) www.yourdomain.com web hosting w/ no popup or banner ads. I dont mind having a small banner/button ect on the page, but nothing ugly. I currently use fateback.com, but they started putting a banner at the top of the page which was fine. Now the banner has gotten ugly and has java script popups when someone mouses over them.

The site only gets about 2 or 3 hits per day so traffic isn't an issue, but some of the pages are 200k or so. Any pointers?

Thanks,

Try http://www.1and1.com
I tried them out when they gave free webhosting (not domain name) for 3 years and I still have them. I don't have a site with a large amount of traffic. But anyway they do have good service and you can see their ads in PC Magazine. Their prices seem really reasonable too. If I needed a domain name I would get it from here, I think it is 2.99 a year for a .us and 5.99 a year for .com but you should check it out for yourself.

Yeah, I'm under the 1&1 free package with a $5.99 per year domain, works great, great service, great company.

What about GoDaddy.com ? Anybody had any experience?

GoDaddy is great as a web registrar. I wouldn't really trust them with my web hosting, plus I think that there are better values out there.

Interesting.. I do like the GoDaddy anonymous domain registering... I didn't know about their hosting services.. So you guys are saying 1&1? Any other company? Space, I figure around 20megs should be good, with I'd say an average of 3megs per hit, hitting a few times a day. I ask for a client I'm trying to get setup. Needs to be safe, private and fairly priced. If it was for me, I'd just dump it on the server I already run.. lol.. Gotta love FreeBSD.. :D

Definitely try out 1&1, they're really good.

I took a look @ 1&1 and it appears they dont have there free hosting w/ domain xfer any more. :( From what I can tell they best they have is $2.99/month and that includes xfering a domain free. My budget is really tight now, but it looks to be a pretty good place. Do you happen to know if 1&1 is the acutuall hosting comapny or are they just a reseller?

Thanks,
