At your local Gamestop, get a 60 GB PS3 for $499.99 or 20 GB PS3 for $399.99 if you trade in a working Playstation 2, 2 Sony PS2 Controllers, and any 8 MB Memory Card.

I went in and gave them a broken PS2. They didn't even check if it worked so I'm assuming that they won't care about the mod chip

eh...it says working ps2...lol. how u manage to pull that off...did they take down ur info? Hopefully you used cash...:-P
 
seems like a pretty bad deal... I guess if you're getting rid of your PS2 and replacing it with a PS3 you don't have any need for them, but there are still some compatibility issues and such so I'm holding on to my PS2 for now, especially while some good PS2 games are yet to come out, like God of War 2
 
I bought a ps3 2 weeks ago but I guess I'll be returning it and buying it here since I was looking to get rid of my ps2 anyway and get some money out of it.

Good luck with that.. most game retailers are very picky about returns. Apparently opened items (games, consoles, accessories) have to be returned within a week, otherwise they won't be accepted. At least, that's the case with Gamestop and EB.
 
They do look at the sticker on the back sometimes & if you put in a mod chip, it won't have that.

Yeah but I specifically asked the guy at Wal-Mart. So if they tell me otherwise when I go back I'll just take it up with a manager and explain. I was told even opened I have 30 days. So if not, I'll just let them know how angry I am :) Persistence is key.

New PS3 60GB for $470 with this deal, plus trading 5 old games, a multitap, and 3 other controllers. Schawing.
 
Exactly. Buy a new one and use your PS2 at Gamestop, then return the new unopened PS3 with your old receipt at Wal-mart. That's if the packaging looks the same of course.

potential problem with that: each ps3 has a unique "Serial # for Registration" and it seems that ebgames/gamestop collects that info when they scan the item as written on the receipt (actually, the # wasn't printed out on the real receipt but on a gift receipt i asked for). has anyone had any luck trying to return a ps3 with a different receipt at ebgames/gamestop?
