Getting Out of Verizon Wireless Contract with no Penalties

This is a good deal if you are on a Verizon contract and wanted to cancel without early termination fee.

For anyone that has a Verizon phone contract - the pay-by-the-month type you will notice on your most recent statement, that, as of October 1st, all lines will be charged a 40c "Administrative Fee."

According to the Customer Agreement, you can call Verizon within 60 days of this notice and have them cancel your contract and not have to pay any early termination fee.

Thanks to Rickwaver for this deal.

Customer Agreement states
"UNLESS OTHERWISE PROHIBITED BY LAW, WE CAN ALSO CHANGE PRICES AND ANY OTHER CONDITIONS IN THIS AGREEMENT AT ANY TIME BY SENDING YOU WRITTEN NOTICE PRIOR TO THE BILLING PERIOD IN WHICH THE CHANGES WOULD GO INTO EFFECT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE YOUR SERVICE AFTER THAT POINT, YOU'RE ACCEPTING THE CHANGES. IF THE CHANGES HAVE A MATERIAL ADVERSE EFFECT ON YOU, HOWEVER, YOU CAN END THE AFFECTED SERVICE, WITHOUT ANY EARLY TERMINATION FEE, JUST BY CALLING US WITHIN 60 DAYS AFTER WE SEND NOTICE OF THE CHANGE"

I'm with Verizon and satisfy with thier service but I want a new phone. Do you guys think it's possible if I cancel it then sign up with them again so I got a better phone?

mikew151, my guess is that you can, but not with the same phone number.

That's true, I didn't think about that. Thanks Spoofee

IMO if you would do that to them I would think that they would "have your number" and may not be too willing to give you another contract or a new phone. In turn they may also try and charge you a crazy activation fee or play some other games with you to make up for their loss.

Has anyone actually done this? I have a family share plan with two phones. One was for my now ex-girlfriend so I have a phone I'm not using. Think I can just get rid of the extra line?

Verizon has that "New Every Two" thing. How long since you last renewed your contract? If you are within 90 days of the end of your contract, you can "re-up" and get a new phone at a substantial discount or free.

Don't forget the word 'material'

It would be tough to argue that 40 cents per month meets the threshold of 'material' when it says 'material adverse impact'. Don't be surprised if you get charged an early termination fee.

If you were to complain, they could always say, "OK, here's a customer service credit for 40 cents times the months remaining on your contract." Even the lowliest customer service rep has the ability to give you a credit up to typically $25.

Like anything, its worth a shot. I'd call them and give them a sob story and see what happens. Maybe they would allow you to extend your contract a year in turn for getting rid of your ex's. If they won't do it, aren't there any "responsible" family members or friends that could use the phone? They can pay you the add a line fee (which will be cheaper than a normal plan) and everyone wins.

Nope, everyone in my family has crappy Nextel except me. I was sick of dropping calls so I switched to Verizon. Love the service, not my ex. :)

i don't quite understand how this works. you said Oct 1st and 60 days from Oct. I'm gonna safely assume you meant Oct of last year right? How are we still able to do this?

I love verizon, I would like to cancel and get a new phone though.

Verizon Wireless

Just remember, you actually have 2 contracts with the NewEveryTwo plan. One contract is your cellular service. The second is your phone contract that is the NewEveryTwo (along with a qualifying cell service plan).

I'm into my first year of my cell service plan(made a change to a national plan and had to re-up) but my NewEveryTwo is coming due in a few weeks.

Thanks,

Nightrider

I'm attempting it now and its near impossible to cancel the contract. What happens is they say the government allowed them to charge us this fee.

Thank you for posting this! I never saw that in the customer agreement, but I've been a bit muffed about everything they's dropped or went up on over the past 6 months...like dropping free holidays, upping FUSC taxes, increasing 411 prices, etc. I just spoke to the guy and rattled off everything they have done since I've been a customer and mentioned this admin fee as the final straw...he cancelled my account and said my ETF would be waived! SWEET!

Thanks!!! :bigok:

Thats B.S. There are some gov't fees but this implicitly states that they are adding this on.

I'm not suprised however they are trying to worm out of it - they'll probably offer something like $4.80 credit.....(12 months at 40cents).

I'll be trying it myself in a few days

JEeze, how did you do it? I've been ranting for 5 times for at least 4 hours of poor service in my area and the fees and they still will not budge.
