Anyone have any special Halloween ideas? I have to admit as a women I seem to be missing the Betty Crocker/ Martha Stewart gene. This will be Johannas first real Halloween. She'll be 20 months old by then. Trick or treating are out. We'll probably do "Trunk or Treat" at church. But what kind of home decorating and costume ideas do you have?

Gotta great idea!

Why don't you dress her up as a chicken? You know how her favorite thing to say is "Bye bye chickens!" And if she wants to carry one around, well, that can be arranged.:)

Oh, even better idea! Dress her up as some Star Wars character and we will have Jimmy to dress as Darth Vader. :teeth: You know how much Jimmy would love that one!

How about as a soccer player? Hubby would probably blame that one on me or Jimmy!:convinced:

Ok, I am really upset. :verysad: She won't be coming to see me trick or treating? And I was going to have something really special for her too.

Now for decorating. Please, I beg of you, don't do anything animated. You know how afraid she is of TMX Elmo! Of course you have to have a carved pumpkin this year. And while you are at it, let her help! And then run her directly to the tub. I will even come watch the action.

Ok, hope this helps.

At 20 months, anything you do for Halloween is for you, not for Johanna. She will have NO recollection of this event whatsoever.

So, I'd say do whatever you think will allow the nicest photo ops for you to talk about as a family years from now.

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I have a million ideas.

What kind of costume do you want for her? Mainstream (pumpkin, ghost, some store bought character.) or make your own (pirate, doctor, prisoner) or something completely original (static cling, ceiling fan, time flies etc.)

Last year I was a blind surgeon. I wore my scrubs and splashed them with fake blood. I also wore sunglasses and a name tag that read "Dr. B. Lind, Dept of Surgery" My stethoscope was backwards and I also had a few surgical instruments (just kelly clamps and hemostats) in my pockets and attached to my shirt.

For treats...cookies in the shape of halloween things (Pillsbury even sells them!) Or cauldron cupcakes (bake chocolate cupcakes with a marshmallow in the middle of them. There will be a hole in the middle. Attach a licorice "handle".

bake a sheet cake, cut into a ghost (or pumpkin or witch's hat) and decorate.

I tilted all the pictures in my house and put fake spider web stuff on them. I also made a scarecrow, put him on the hearth. This year I'm working on a way to get him to talk...I want to use a Sim-man from the hospital, but the the owner would never ok that...

I had a skeleton greet people at the door. My flowerbox became a graveyard with funny sayings.

Oh, I never started my sarcophagus! I'm making one for my aunt's living room. Different stores will have toys that light up and sing. I have a skeleton's head that sings "hot hot hot" and it looks like fire is coming out of his head. I also have a witch's hat that sings a halloween version of "do you believe in magic"

ohh, my aunt also made me a purse that looks like frankensten and it says things like "its my first halloween...boo! did i scare you?" and "if i'm real good, can we go halloween caroling...please?" You can find things like that at Party City and make it into something she can hold her candy in.

Also, most malls sometimes offer trick-or-treating.

There's so much to do! I can't wait to decorate! I should do that this weekend. :)

Dont forget to roast the pumpkin seeds after cleaning the pumpkin!

Trunk or treat? What's that??

You get a whole bunch of vehicles together in a parking lot and have the kids go around to each vehicle for trick-or-treats. The parents at the vehicle give the kids a treat. A lot of the churches in our area do this. You usually know the people involved and the kids get their bags filled quickly so you don't have to be out a long time.

Alot of our Churches do that too, and last year our community Police, fire dept and Business places did it at our local park. It was fun, and there was a contest for the best designed booth.

You must know, Doctor, that I did not choose to seek psychiatric help. I have no faith that I shall exit this room a healed man; I know now that I have been destined for the asylum since childhood. No mere conversation with you can steer me clear of that fate. That said, let us proceed with this court-compelled farce before my mad prattle provokes your crabbiness further.

As soon as I saw "Van Pelt" I knew I had to continue to see what that young boy had made of himself.

Okay. That was awesome. Im sending that to my friends.

I suppose you particularly liked the line:
the clouds were fluorescing under them, just as a squid will fluoresce under certain radiations

Actually, being subjected to radiation isnt really my idea of fun.

Not fun, per se, but intriguing. And prolly less long term damage than radiation.

I remember one of the big attractions at the 1964 Worlds Fair (in lovely Flushing Meadows-Corona, Queens) was the "atomic energy" pavilion. My older brother and I stood in line with hundreds of other similarly amazed children for the privilege of paying money to have them irradiate dimes, making them radioactive. We then put these radioactive dimes in our pockets as souvenirs.

Thats awesome.

I often wonder about that kind of thing. Not the radiation, but how different the attitudes were back then. For example, my mom didnt stop drinking or smoking when she was pregnant with us. Im willing to bet that most people my age or older's mom didnt either. She may have slowed down a bit, but I know she didnt quit. And we turned out fine. Aside from my brother being a schmuck.

on a related note, I remember my high school's chemistry and physics teacher had radioactive isotopes in the lab. There was an emergency shower, a lead box, and yellow and black stickers everywhere. Mind you, the school taught pre-k to 12th grade, so theoretically, six year olds couldve gotten to them.

When I did my internship I worked with radioactive isptopes. Once I had something delivered and the box it came in was hotter than the chemicals inside. The entire lab had to be decontaminated.

Don't want to go through that again.

So its about two weeks away! Anyone have the "Best. Costume. Ever."?

I am prolly going to buy a ghillie suit for my costume.
