I was thinking these are blu-ray. They are not. They are the old HD DVD technology that didn't make it. To experience HD viewing, you must have an HD DVD player as well as an HDTV.

Something I don't understand...It says HD-DVD so why do folks think they are Blu-Ray?

No free shipping!

A few notes:

1) No free shipping - these items are not sold by Amazon, so no $25 super-save shipping option.

2) Clearly marked HD-DVD, not BLU-RAY.

3) Some discs are "combo packs" and include HD-DVD and a conventional (non-High Definition) DVD for regular DVD players. Balls of Fury is one example of this.

4) HD-DVD players are fairly common for folks with XBOX 360, or those who bought players when they were closed-out last year from retail stores.

If you have a suitable player, some of these titles may only be a few dollars more than a rental fee elsewhere and in HD as opposed to standard definition.

I just wanted to point out that the combo discs aren't necessarily the best option. There is quite a bit of information on the internet about the hd-dvd/dvd combo discs not being playable or having issues with many players, and I'm sad to say that has certainly been the case with me. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix crashes halfway through for me in HD format, but the DVD side plays fine.

I noted they weren't blu-ray to inform the people before they bought. Blue-Ray is a high definition DVD. Some people aren't familiar with the different technologies. It was just an emphasis so people don't buy what they can't use.

I have about 75 HD-DVD's and probably 30 of them are Combo disks (HD-DVD / Standard DVD) and have never had a problem with any of them. For what it's worth.

I have a HD/Blu-Ray combo player (Samsung) and aside from the spin-up speed of HD being a little bit slower than blu-ray, HD has been nothing but a gold mine for me, many of my discs are now available on blu-ray for $26-$29 each while the HD can be purchased at several places for about $5-7 each.
