LETTER FROM MOM OF TWINS
“TWIN LEGISTLATION BILL”
I am trying to get Senator Frank Padavan to sponser a Bill allowing parents of Twin/Triplets and Higher order multiples to have a primary voice in the classroom placement (either together or separate) of their children. Please pass this on to everyone you know and ask them to sign, as I need as many signatures as possible. Minnesota, last year passed the first "Twin Legislation Bill" and we need similiar legislation here in New York. On behalf of Ryan and Nicholas and all children born together, and their parents who would like a choice-
I Thank You Kath

Councilman Tony Avello's office called me on Friday and informed me that they will be bringing my request before the Legislative Committee as soon as possible. I am once again asking all of you to take a moment and read my
petition. you do not have to be a parent of a
twin to sign. Thanks again on behalf of all parents of multiples who would like a voice in the placement decisions of their children (either separate or together) within the classroom.

Umm...why don't they just run the twins through the same way as everyone else? When I was in High School, we didn't get to choose which specific class to be in. We chose what classes we wanted, then we'd get stuck in however those classes would work out, we didn't get to pick which teacher we got or who we took the class with. Why should twins be treated any different? If there really is an issue here, then please, let me know. But it seems to me that there's already a ridiculous law on the books and they're trying to replace it with a slightly less ridiculous law.

i agree with you wade. this sounds like preferential treatment, a.k.a. discrimination

I think twins needs to be away from each other sometimes, they need to find their own identity. I worked with a set of twin women, who in their 50's still dressed the same (if one outfit got damaged, the other twin would throw hers away), lived together, shared one car, worked the same place, took time off together, etc. Um hello, you were born as 2 seperate people, act like it.

Every set of twins I've ever known, and I've known at least 6 sets, have always been very different. They still would dress similar on occasion, but they were all still very much their own person. It's been the same with identical and fraternal twins. I agree that the 50 year old twins that don't seperate is scary, but I think that is the exception more than the rule. I agree with what clubby said, any sort of special treatment is discrimination, i think this is a bunch of hullaballoo <what a great word :)>

I wonder if they god married, if they married twins? ;)

I have to agree with "The Wise" one on this. I would have liked to be in the same classes as my best friend throughout school (everybody said we looked like twins, we even dressed alike some days), but I didn't get any preferential treatment. I think that twins should be treated like any other student in school - luck of the draw!
