Here's a page of advice from computer users who have received the same error message:

The topic is five pages long, so read through it to the end (there's no single magic bullet reported by users; some have had success with various approaches).
The thing to realize is that not every antivirus or spyware program will catch everything. In my experience the commercial program Pest Patrol (now owned by Computer Associates) catches more spyware than adaware or spybot. I have also found that Trend Micro PC-cillin (or Trend Micro Internet Security) is superior to Norton of McAfee. I am told that the best antivirus program is kaspersky.com 's alto I haven't used it yet.
The other thing to realize is that sometimes spyware will remove the good with the bad. One person who posted in the above thread had this experience:
"I had a same problem getting an error: Visual Basic C++ Runtime Library error......abnormal termination..a for iexplore.exe, then my IE would shot down
well, after nights of search I finally fixed it --so let me tell you how I got this error in first place.. I downloaded a spyware removal program called ad-aware6, it searched my system, and found numerous programs and i instructed a adware to delete them all.. later I found out one of them was called COMMONNAME this program is fully responsible for your browser problem, however although adware 6.o has removed COMMONNAME there were parts left that i could not find to remove so, it looks like they were attached to IE so you have to download commonname again and then remove it by following the instructions provided by commonname -- here is the url:
http://www.commonname.com/eng/help/ug/security1.asp
after following the instruction and removing a commonname the problem was instantly solved... you do not need to dowload IE ^ or re-install the windows,,, just uninstall commonname correctly and your problem is solved.. good luck!"
One poster above in this thread on spoofee.com referred to the freeware Hijack This! and it is an excellent program. However, altering your registry entries is very risky and I would not advise you to analyze the log on your own. There are some talented programmers who will analyze your Hijack This! log for free and walk you through the steps to fix this at:

Installing, running, and posting your Hijack This! file to this site is very easy and straightforward. Make sure, though, that you run the most current version of Hijack This!, which you will find on a link on this page:

Good luck.
