I've finally decided to join this forum although I've lurked around for a very long time. Thanks for the many deals! I've always wanted to give something back to the community but never got something except for this:

I got an invitation letter today for a free MCSE 2003 class from a training company in California.

Here's what it says:

"Neliance Training Services is now offering a free MCSE Class for a limited time. This instructor-led, 40-hour, hands-on, lab/lecture class is valued at $1,700 if purchased individually, and is Module 1 of Neliance's three-module MCSE hands-on training course. Upon successfully completing this class, individuals should not only have the ability to pass the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification**, but also be able to perform the tasks outlined under Topics Covered in Labs and Lectures below."

Their ad at http://www.neliance.com mentions a Promo Code. Did anybody get one? Please PM me the code if you got one. Thanks!

I e-mailed them to apply for their July start. Can't wait :) Who else is going? Anybody heard of that company before?

I would say about the first half of their syllabus is learned by just normal playing around in Windows xP. Hacking around.

You can learn the second half out of a book. I don't know...$1700 for this course normally?

Lots of folks become MSCE's just by reading instructional manuals available at Borders Book for less than $100. If you are the type who functions better in a class setting then by all means...

Also it seems like this may be a marketing device to get you to take the other 2 modules at full price.

With all the IT jobs now going to India I wonder how good a career path this is today.

I wonder if it might be more lucrative to become Linux or Cisco certified instead.

From the job postings I've seen, most of them require MCSE/ Exchange knowledge, and I'm hoping that this will help me out.

It's true that you can study go get certified by learning from a book -- but when you're asked to do this on a real, live box, I've seen most of my college mates get stuck. I'm choosing not to go that route and am looking for REAL hands-on.

I've called the company about what the catch is. There's none. It even says so in their ad. By the way, I used my friend's promo code m01my01 and it worked :)

My interview is on the 6th :)

I just had an interview with them... their lab isn't fully set up yet, but I see all the equipment that they have lying around. They said it's worth $5,000 for each student ... let's see how the lab will look like next week when classes start. The interview went pretty well and they seem very knowledgable in what they are talking about.
