Here is what you do , i was on Comcast high speed cable internet for about 6 months. I was on a special offer 0f 19.99 for 6 months , Yesterday i got a bill for next month saying my net would go up from 19.99 to 45 a month
I called comcast and asked them if i could go to any other offer , they refused and said it was 1 incentive only at the time of signing.

Well anyhow i decided to call comcast bluff , i called up and used the menu to downgrade service , chose the internet service and was transferred immidiately to a customer exec (so much for wait times when they are going to loose you)

I told her that i wished to cancell the service from the end of them month

CE - "Why sir"
Me - "I lost my job and cant afford 45 a month , its just too high"
CE - Are you sure
Me - Yes i have to cut back on stuff and this is a waste , i can use dialup or DSL

CE- Well sir are you happy with your service
Me- Yes no problem its just too high
CE - " well sir as you are a valued customer (they didnt think that yesterday did they) i can lower your payment to 25 a month for 6 months no contact

Me - (wondering if i could get a better deal) - "is there no way i could contine to pay what i do no , times are bad
CE - Well sir that was a special
Me "paying 10 more than dialup id ok , paying 15 more may be a waste,im not sure i want thatr

CE - Hold on sir , let me talk to my manager (yeah right)

Ce - (10 seconds later - that was a long chat) Well sir im happy to inform you that i can offer it to you for 19.99 for the next 6 months

Me - Thank you
Ce - your welcome

As you can see , whatever comcast make off you is profit , why would they want to loose 20 a month. And whats the worst that could happen on my part , i was telling them to cancell my service from the end of the month .
If they agreed i would call back tomm and tell them i changed my mind , they would be more than happy to reconect it agin

Do not let them take advantage of you

Great advice! Only problem is how many times will they let you go to the well? I cancelled my Comcast internet service to get Verizon DSL (which includes MSN Premium) since DSL was about half the price. Shortly after I cancelled a Comcast person came to my house and said they would give me 6 months for $19.99. I was impressed with their initiative, but I said so then I'll have to cancel in 6 months because you're too expensive at the "normal" price and the Comcast person had no response and left.

If Comcast offered me $19.99 or even $29.99 for 5 years, I would happily sign a 5 year contract. :spoofee:

I dont thik they give u a certain no of times, they dont want to loose you , as far as they are concerened all 20$ they get from you is profit. They have already done the wiring so they dont want to loose you

6 months at a time is fine

Any internet company will do this. AOL gave me 6 months for free when i wanted to cancel my service.

I know a person who has been using aol for free for 3 years now , he keeps telling them hes going to cancell it and they keep giving him 6 months free , so hes dont that 8 times till now

Bump! I have been using Comcast for a year and a half at the introductory price because I kept calling every time it went up but today I called and was told they couldn't reduce the price so now my Internet service is $45 a month. I need a cheaper internet service and I am not really familiar with all that's out there. I haven't heard too much great stuff about Quest. I really don't want to pay $110/month to do a bundle package. Any ideas? :questionmark:

Depending where you live, you can play one provider off the other. In my area, I've got a choice of Verizon FiOS or Cablevision (so-called) Optimum. I just switch back and forth from the one introductory offer to the other.

Just don't get attached to the email box from your ISP (I use mine for spam)

Thanks! I am looking into Verizon. I just don't want to have to sign a contract.

I worked for a local phone company and can tell you this is common practice for all phone/ internet providers. We were told if anyone called and said they were switching to Time Warner to offer them "anything" to stop them from cancelling. We had a girl in sales that was a former TW sales rep. She said TW has a designated employee to stop anyone from switching from TW.

I call suddenlink/ charter ( my internet and cable tv company ) and change services every six month. I always use the disconnect option and just simply ask what specials are they offering right now. I've had HBO/ Cinemax free for several years now

That's the way to do it! They would rather give service away then let the competition steal a customer.

I've called twice today with no luck. :thumbs_do Maybe because this is the first month of being on the regular rate and they have given me the introductory price for a year and a half. I'll try again in a few weeks. I have been looking around though and it is hard to find internet service without a contract.

Don't put blinders on just because of the contract. For example, Verizon in my area requires a one year contract. The special price is for 6 months. But even when I figure the annual cost it's a savings over what Cablevision had risen to.

Once the year is up, I've got no loyalty, I'm moving on.

I have WOW!...Wide Open West. They aren't the cheapest, but there is no contract. I'm not sure if they service your area though.
Ok looks like I am of no help to you. :o
