Some people have spotted the HP CD Writer 52 for $39 - $30 Rebate = $9.00 at their local Officemax. Ask the Officemax employee to find out if they have any in the store instead of hunting for it. It may be in the back room or clearance section.

People have reported that this is an Lite-On rebadge. Here is a link on how to flash it to a Lite-on drive.

maybe lite-on has better firmware features and more frequent upgrades? just a few guesses. pretty cheap

I'd rather have an HP *anything* than the equivalent "lite-on".

The underyting tech is still lite on, not HP. The only thing HP about it is the sticker.

even so, you get HP tech support, HP warranty, HP rebate service..

Again though why is it so important to reflash this drive?

BTW I plugged it in, booted up Fedora Core FC3, and was burning in 2 minutes without installing nothing! Not bad...
