I had to put my Lab to sleep.

Today is not a great day.I have a 15 year old Yellow Lab and in the last week,he went from being able to eat,drink go outside on his own,wait for us by the bay window,and even bark to warn strangers a big dog lives here.But I think he had a stroke the day before yesterday.He cannot stand up to go outside to do his business and it took two people to life a once 95 pound dog so he could do his business.I had to have him put to sleep.It hurt so much to see him dying,but I did what I felt I had to so his suffering would end.So even though he is my dog,please keep me in your thoughts and prayers,please.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

When I first quickly glanced at the topic, however, I thought it read "I had to put my laptop to sleep", and I bursted with laughter (people at work gave me a weird look), but then I read it, and it was very sad, sorry. Keep the great memories you had of him and cherish them.

I am so sorry Mrs K. That had to be very hard. At least his suffering has ended. Pets are so wonderful and a great part of our lives. I know alot of people that grieve over pets more than humans in death. I think pets touch a special place in our hearts that no human can reach. I will be thinking of you .....:hug:

I am misunderstanding~did you have two labs die???? I barely coped with losing one.

I believe she wrote the first post before going to the vet and he died on the way there...
 
Your sweetie died on the way to the vet...just shows it was his time. You were doing the right thing. I know how hard it is. I held my kitty in my lap while having her put to sleep back in the spring after a bout with oral cancer. She went right to sleep and the doctor said it was unusual how calm she was. It is reassuring to know that our friends are free from pain now. Sorry for your loss. :(
 
Oh honey, I am so so sorry to hear about your "little big baby" going to heaven. :( My heart is heavy along with your heart, I know how you are feeling. I had to put my Tristan down nineteen months ago and it was the worse thing to happen to me.:( Cherish the memories and love your baby gave you for fifteen years, and, you know how to find me if you want to talk...I listen well.

I had to put my Rottweiler down about 2 years ago. I know how dogs can be a big part of a family. When I got divorced I had to give my ex my Corvette so she would let me keep Gretchen and I still feel I got the best end of the deal. I grew up working in a pet shop that my parents owned and I know how people grieve over losing a pet. The best thing you can do is cherish her memory and bring a new family member in to the fold. When my Pap Paps Chihuahua passed away he said he would never have another pet and 2 weeks later he came into our store and got another Chihuahua that was with him until the day my Pap Pap passed away. Thoughts and prayers are with you.:)
 
Thank you all for your kind words.It means so much to me.About an hour ago,right after a brief rain shower,a full rainbow appeared over our house,so I guess he was telling me he is finally home at The Rainbow Bridge.
 
I am so sorry to hear about your Lab. I also lost my 6-month-old Chi-Weenie yesterday. I am not sure what happened to him. We woke up yesterday to find that he had died sometime during the night. :(
