looking for the best deal on a local pickup here in denver for the i-pod mini thanks alot

Especially with local pickup, you're not going to get anything under $300. Apple is having trouble keeping up with the iPod demand of the holiday season, so retailers aren't looking to get rid of them cheap. Plus, there aren't normally that many discounts on iPods even if you wanted to get one online, cheapest is around $275 sometimes from Amazon.

thanks erik your always a help. you go above and beyond what i expect for a moderator you dont get enough thank you's. i really appreciate it.

No problem at all. :) Sorry I couldn't provide you with some deal at all, but iPods are really hard to get cheap, unless you're getting one used or refurbished. Also, this time of year is especially bad. I don't know if you've heard, but Apple is falling short because the demand for them is even higher than expected (I think the number was 4 million that have been sold so far this season), so you're not going to be able to find any deals at all. Maybe if you wait until after the holidays cool off (mid-January or so), you might be able to get a 20GB model for $275 or so, but that's about as deep as the discount gets.

Also, keep in mind that the iPod is not the only one to look at. Personally, I think that the iPods are overrated. Their build quality is fairly cheap compared to others and the battery isn't great at all.

Creative has some new players out (ie. the Zen Touch and Zen Micro) that are really nice for the price (I think the Zen Touch is around $250 or so). You may want to take a look at them. In my opinion, they match the iPod in features and the batteries are a lot better, and they'll probably last a lot longer.

CNET has been giving all the Creative models great reviews lately. I have a Dell DJ first generation which is made by Creative (Creative makes the Dell models as well) that I picked up cheap which has been nothing but a pleasure so far. I can use it every day at school for a month or so and it won't lose charge.

agreed, my first gen DJ is great. A little on the heavy side, but besides that, great battery life, looks good, etc. And i was very surprised with the quality of the earbuds that come with it. Had to RMA the headphones at one point because one earbud died, but support @ dell was very good, and i had no problem getting the new set. except the indian on the other side of the computer didn't know what i meant when i said "earbud" and asked me to hold on for about 7 minutes while he looked up the term or asked his co-workers. he finally made it back and said "so i understand that one of a headphone is not working.?" (he put a period and a question mark at the end of every sentence lol)

Wow, you really like the headphones? They make my ears want to shatter. I picked up a pair of Sony Fontopia 51's for $25 and the difference is incredible. I highly advise you do so as well, your poor ears! :D

Also, something to note:

You won't find many deals for iPods because the retailer's cost is so high. My sister just left a computer company that let it's employees buy computer & computer electronics for cost. She paid $250 for her 20GB iPod that retails for $300. A measly 16.7% discount is the cost. How ridiculous.

Erik has a good point in that the iPod isn't the only good large capacity MP3 player out there. It just goes to show the power of conformity.

Yeah, iPods are such a fad. Unless you own a Mac (I plan to buy a Mac soon hopefully), I wouldn't go with the iPod. However, if you have a Mac, I'd definitely get one because they match and the sync with iTunes is so good.

For PC users, I wouldn't recommend the iPod at all, there are better choices.
