Info - Google Releases Own Web Browser, Chrome

So far I can't get it to install. Following the suggested remedies finds my ".../downloads folder to be "write only". No matter how many times I turn it off it comes back (on checking) to write only.
Google Chrome = Not Ready for Prime Time (yet)? At least for my wife's computer.

And another thing - Google uses Linux with it's servers and was practically built on Linux and open source yet hasn't provided a chrome browser for Linux users.

Shades of Mircrosoft! :mmph:

Firefox is the best browser out there. Google is really going to have a hard time getting to the Firefox users.

its more like Apple-ish

Yay!!

works great even faster than Opera. Can't wait for the REAL version (for linux)..;)

Well, like all things, wait before you download and install it. Firefox is a proven web browser. I just have a feeling that Google will include unnecessary apps and tracking software within its browser. So, be careful. Wait until it has been out for a while before you commit to it.

JerryP: The interesting question is not if Chrome (beta) is ready for prime time (it is not.) What I find more interesting is that it appears to have all the trappings of a disruptive technology.

I wrote more about this idea here:

Google Chrome: Disruptive Technology

I'll stay with firefox. Google 'knows' too much already.

It reminds me of a old, pretty bad movie called "Colossus, the Forbin Project"

Are you kidding???

This is a classic!

Who knew you could get a girl naked simply by telling her the computers (Colossus & Guardian) were watching?

I agree, Google is getting too big, especially if they release a web browser on top of it all.

But does anyone see this from a web developer's perspective? This might be *yet another* browser to try and support.

I did get installed, soon there after the top of the screen was disfigured, the bottom part of the page, lost the clock and the start menu and my minimized screens, the computer started running slower and had to close everything out and open it again only to have the same issue, went into the control panel to add/remove programs and remove it, restart the computer. I was worried I wasn't able to remove it. Looks like a good idea with the tabs and all. I hope they work the bugs out, I might try it again later!!:28: But I am very happy with the RoboForm tool bar.

Meh... Non-thrilled

I installed it... Tried to import my 100's of favorites. It added 3 to the top of the window and one in the more favorites list. Wheres the rest? I tried everything I could think of to get the rest imported. There is no way im adding them all one at a time.

It didnt seem any faster than opera to me. I LOVE the way you can save sessions in opera. Chrome seems like... a base model car. It works, but, theres nothing to love about it. Very basic. Dull. You have to wow me to make me switch from something I already like and use. Theres no wow in chrome.

Nothin to see here.... Move along....

Working Great! Installed it last night and have been using it ever since. It is now my default browser. All my bookmarks transfered from FF. My passwords didn't though so I have to enter them by hand.:mmph:

I haven't been able to find some of the features mentioned on the tech boards, such as stealth browsing, gotta read the directions no doubt.

I timed it and it loads in 5 seconds, which is a major advantage over FF. No crashes yet. Can't find the switch to kill a misbehaving window load which is described in the literature. Haven't had this happen yet but I want to know how to kill a bad load.

I did have a Flash window hang, Chrome popped up a message box asking if I want to close the bad Flash instance! Very cool.

This is a very fast app. So far Chrome gets the seal of approval.

google is also developing an OS

Now if they would just develop a site to compete with eBay ... they are the only ones with the name and $$$ behind them to actually be able to compete (and hopefully crush) eBay.

... that would be more useful to me than a new OS.

I already have a stable and a not-so-stable OS that I can choose from ... I don't need a third choice when it comes to an OS :proud:
