There has been a leak that Bestbuy will start selling Playstation 3 40GB console systems for $399.99 starting 10/28/07.

Currently, the Playstation 3 60GB system is selling for $499.99.

Looks like its going to include Spider-man 3 as well. The product name is PS3 40GB SPIDER

wait is this a serious post? why would they sell a 40GB version?

it doesn't have the PS2 hardware inside and can be manufactured a little cheaper. It can play most ps1 & ps2 games through emulation though

sony wants to introduce a cheaper ps3 so it can appeal to the people with a smaller budget

I'm curious about why this is posted as a deal. Its not a sale, not a coupon or rebate, the title says 'Info', its not even available yet, etc.

Um, price reduction? I'm not arguing with Spoofee.com :)

The 40GB PS3 is the next release from the original 20GB. LIke how the current 80GB is the next release of the 60GB.

So the cheaper PS3 isn't something new. It will not have Wi-Fi and also no HDMI output. So if you just want to play a PS3 on a regular TV and not care about the HDMI or the blu-ray movies then yea its a good option but I would rather pay the extra $100 for the 60GB and have the HDMI output and Wi-Fi.

No HDMI! It better have, though I can't see a $100 reduction with just a loss of wifi and 20GB.

So where did spoofee (or one of its members) obtain these documents? Were they obtained in a legal fashion?

no hdmi, wifi, or blue ray?? i thought even the 20gig version had that the only price difference was the HD size.

HDMI is a necessity. Thats a deal breaker right there.

actually the 20gb ps3 did have HDMI and even if it didnt HDMI isnt the only way to recieve a HD signal, component is also considered HD. They'd never remove blu-ray support as the medium the games are on is blu-ray.

the differences between the 20gig and the 60gig was the hd size, wifi vs wired, and media card reader(pretty worthless imo).

i'd guess the 40gig will have hdmi, no media reader, no emotion engine, no wifi. for $399 which is a very good deal imo.

You can get HD over component ~HOWEVER~ the security bit will eventually be set on blueray and HD-DVD movies to prevent players from outputting HD content on analog outputs. HD will then only be available over digital outputs which only allow the video to be outputted when an "approved" device is connected, allowing video to be outputed to a monitor but not a recording device. When this happens, you will not be able to watch the HD version of those movies over component or vga; HDMI or DVI will be ~REQUIRED~. So if you are justifying the cost of a PS3 so that you can watch movies, you had better get one with HDMI or you will be screwed within a couple years.

Rumor; not true. Even the 20GB model had an HDMI port...

The console isnt even released yet, how can it be a price reduction?

Hardly sounds fair.

I've read that they are thinking of scrapping the security bit, which seems like a good possibility as more companies are seeing the light regarding DRM(it sucks, it's worthless, and it pisses off their customers).

If this does come out be prepared to be spending the night at Best Buy and they will probably only release a limited amount just like they did last year. My son wants a PS3, he doesn't care about all that other stuff. He just wants to play games. I'm not camping out to get one though.
