Iowa-Iowa medicaid recipients alert for stop smoking help.

Medicaid will pay for help to stop smoking if you do the following:

This is for 18 years of age and older.

You must visit you doctor and explain that you're interested in stopping smoking. Your doctor will decide with you about the best program.

Additionally, you'll be required to participate in counseling through Quitline Iowa. This will consist of counseling phone calls for the duration of your medication therapy.

In addition to counseling your program could include:

* A prescription for Bupropion, a prescription drug that helps reduce the craving for nicotine.

* Over-the-counter ncotine replacement patches and gum

After your doctor's visit, a form will be faxed to Quitline Iowa.. They will then contact you for information and begin the over-the-phone counseling program. Once enrolled in the program the will send the prior authorization request to Medicaid.

As soon as you are approved you can pick it up at your pharmacy with a $1 copay for each medication.
