I don't take drugs. Medicine is OK but allergy remedies don't fit into the medicine category for me. I'm trying a homeopathic "medicine" called bioAllers but I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the "relief" I've received so far.

The thing that seems to "attack" me is an ugly city (low) life tree that just started to bud, weeks after all the nice trees. Naturally there is one outside my window on the neighbors property or I'd get rid of the thing.

Any suggestions? :help:

which of the "real" medications have you tried in the past?

Poor baby

The pollen is so thick here you can write on my car! Good luck with the natural remedies but the only thing that works for me is "Allegra". My doctor did tell me it would help to keep my windows closed and run the air. Opening the windows allows the pollen into your house.

I am the poster child for allergies.
Two weeks ago I was so sick from them, it was flu like and I was in bed for 4 days.

I am currently out of Nasonex - and I think that is my problem. It is a nose spray - and I really hate nose sprays - but I felt SO much better with it! I took it before bed because it gave me a slight headache and irritated my throat but it doesnt bother me when I am sleeping. It is supossed to help with the airborne allergies like tree pollens - ask your doctor if Nasonex is right for you. LOL Sorry couldnt resist.

I am also on Claritin -prescribed not OTC and Allergra is good too.

I concur... (couldn't resist either) Nasonex and Claritin are good.

No no no. You don't understand. I'm a born again '60s hippie and only do natural remedies these days. Have I ever told you the real evils of speed - never mind, different thread.
I tried Claritin and Allergra too and they work OK but a generic Benadryl was my fave. Except when I take them I feel like I fell off the wagon (spiritually, not literally). I was hoping that someone had success with something homeopathic. I guess I need to go visit my pusher Duane (Reade) since Mr. Westerly (my local health food store) don't know squat either. Visine-A seems
like something I've used too.

How about air filtering ? Some of the ionic filtering systems work well.

Jerry, I have horrible allergies and I actually was seeing a naturopath a few years ago because I really don't like doctors.
He recommended a natural over the counter nasal spray ( I can't remember the name) and a Neti Pot. You can get these in health food stores. These are really popular in the alternative medicine community. Personally I ended up going to an allergist and getting Rhinocort Aqua but this is what a lot of naturopaths would recommend.

jerry, is it the "flowering pear" tree? i HATE those things... sorry to those of you who like them... i think they smell BAD! plus, they attract bees. ugh.

as far as allergy remedies, i'd have to go with everyone else on this one.

Clubby, that's what I have in the front yard and it smells horrible. Once the flowers are all off of it it's great.

why would ANYONE plant those things? i know we need photosynthesis but c'mon, there's got to be another tree that could do the job!

I totally forgot!
It doesnt get anymore natural than honey. But some local honey - you will be taking in all the pollens in your area by eating it. It works pretty good, make take a few weeks to feel relief - especially if you are really bad right now.

When you take an allergy shot you are injecting yourself with what you allergic to. By eating honey from your area you are doing the same thing!

It helps me - but I always forget to take some! And I am actually out right now - - - my Mom swears by it.

I have always had a minor concern that one could get "hooked" on the Neti Pot thing and I generally don't like the nasal sprays either.

"How neti is done

A neti pot is filled with warm, slightly salted water and the spout of the pot is inserted into one nostril. The position of the head and pot are adjusted to allow the water to flow out of the other nostril.

The technique is not as uncomfortable or difficult as you may think at
first. You will be pleasantly surprised at this simple and effective practice for maintaining your health.

Once learnt, neti can be done in about 3 minutes and is easily integrated into a daily routine of body cleansing such as showering or brushing your teeth."

IS it something you can stop after you start? I can't stop brushing my teeth or taking a a shower. Gotta do it every day and other people are unknowingly appreciative.

Can one get "pear tree honey"? That sounds like the most fun remedy to me if you can find it.

They only way it would become something you could not stop doing is if you developed a psychological addiction to it. There is no physical reason why you would not be able to stop after using it. We have one and it works great. I usually only use it when I have been around a bunch of dust or feel like I might be getting sick. It should help clear sinuses of pollen too. You will want to make sure you follow the directions and make the solution properly with a comfy temp of water. My husband who wanted nothing to with it for years has become a convert. He now gets it out whenever he feels like a cold might be coming on. It kept him well through this last show. (And that never happens LOL)

Oh, about the local honey suggestion...I tried it and it did not do anything for me. :(

Have you tried any of the Hyland's homeopathic products? They must make something for allergies. We have found their other remedys to be great. I also love Rescue Remedy. But that has nothing to do with allergies. LOL
