Several months ago, some black students dared to sit under a tree in their schoolyard. The next day some white students threatened to lynch them.

Those white students where given figurative wrist slaps, and allowed back into school.

A while after, some white and black students got into a fight. The black students were charged with attempted murder.

Some say the initial act was not punished harshly enough. Some say the people involved in the fight are being punished too harshly. What do you think?

I think there's not enough information.

How was the initial act punished?

threatening to do something is less infringement on someone's rights than actually punching them. (sucks but is the truth.)

As for the fight...who initiated the fight? who came out worse? where there weapons involved?

I'm not in a position to pass judgment on anyone, but I don't think I can have an opinion on this until I know all the facts.

To play devil's advocate: does hanging a noose automatically mean that the white students were advocating the death of black students?

The problem is one action could be considered intimidating, while beating up another student certainly could be construed as attempted murder if the beaters left the beaten for dead.

Anytime the Rev. Al Sharpton gets involved, there is going to be the race card played.

Thanks! I heard about Jena 6 but I really don't know what's going on.

True, that. The so-called "Reverand" (I'm not sure just which mail-order seminary he's a reverand of) does have a history of protest first and ask questions later.

One student, Mychal Bell, 17, was convicted in June of aggravated battery and conspiracy. Those charges were voided by appeals courts, most recently last Friday. Mr. Bell has not been released from jail.

Even as demonstrators marched in Jena, which is 85 percent white, an appellate court ordered an emergency hearing to determine why Mr. Bell had not been released

He seems to escalate problems into more than what they are.

The race issue has been around long enough. Skin color or nationality will not be what we will be concerned with later. Soon we will be wondering if the person sitting next to us is a clone or an alien :alien:

That's right, pretty soon, we will be surrounded by aliens (illegal, that is).....no wait, isn't it what we have now?!
