A US federal court has ordered Microsoft to pay over $290m (£175m) for wilfully infringing on a patent by Canadian firm i4i.

...In a separate injunction, the court prohibited Microsoft from "selling, offering to sell, and/or importing in or into the United States" any version of the software that can open custom XML files (with file extensions .xml, .docx, or .docm).

No one (who goes through the trouble of starting a thread) should have to suffer the embarrassment of no one reading the results of their efforts.

It was a nice article.

I just saw your post about microsoft and am not sure how accurate it is. I live 3 miles from Microsoft in Redmond,WA and have seen or heard nothing about this on any of our local newscasts, and I'm pretty sure they would be all over this.

Looks like it is 100% legit.

I just logged into the Texas court system using PACER and got the documents below. I am sure that Microsoft would want to keep it under wraps.

(Be sure to check out the case history; I'd hate to have to remember everything from the previous filings.)

I saw your new post, but have yet to see or hear anything. Would not be the first time someone went after them.Even a judgement like that to them is like you or I whipping a five spot out of our wallets, will keep my eyes and ears open for any word on this subject. Thanks for all your efforts for spoofee.

Thanks for the info diGriz,it will be interesting to see how long it takes local news here to jump on this.Meanwhile some Canadians get rich (good for them) and Microsoft moves on.

What country do you think Microsoft will move to when the Obama admin starts taxing foreign profits?
They've already said they would leave the US.

My guess is Ireland.
