Know any good CHEAP compact digital cameras?

i'm looking to purchase a nice cheap digital camera for a friend's birthday....i have the canon s400 myself...but it's a bit expensive...plus it's discontinued now...so any suggestions on a good quality camera that's cheap? Thanks!!!!
