someone try this and if it works i'll try as well :claps:

Works, BUT a shipping charge is added since CompUSA doesn't carry it in store and therefore eats into the deal. Pay around $3 with tax versus $10 plus tax (on $40). Not a great deal, but a deal no less! :bigok:

As long as CC doesn't notice the rebates, yeah, it'll work. But that's the rub, 95% of the time they do. So unless the deal is extraordinary, or you really need the item, for most ppl, it's not worth the effort. But if you can pull it off, congrats. I've tried many times on similar deals, almost never works. It works MUCH better when you return to PM *after* the rebate has expired and is no longer either in the CC system or their collective memories.

How long after purchase can you request a price match?

So I should order & pick up at CC on the last day of the rebate, and go in for the PM near the end of the thirty days?

If you live close enough and you could drive there in 24 minutes, you could order online and race there, and try for the $24 gift card if your order isn't waiting for you. ;)

Is CC really going to argue that you would have had to pay a shipping charge at CompUSA?! I would argue that if I had to order online, I would have purchased other items to make my order total $150 to get free shipping.

So, Spoofed, the CompUSA shipping charge is $5...so why wouldn't you end up with a credit just under ten bucks? Why would you pay $3 or $10 plus tax??

CC bad on PM

CC is notoriously bad on PM when rebates are involved:
1) if the rebates are offered by the competator, they say they must PM based on the competator's base price.
2) if the rebates are with CC, they base the comparison against their post-rebate price.

For example, a $60 item at BestBuy with a $10 rebate loses against a CC item at $80 with a $25 rebate.

The wording of their policy is very ambiguous: "Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. "

I've gone in with a competitors ad in hand and they've priced matched at the CC I usually go to and have had no problems obtaining any rebates that are suppose to be printed. Last time I PM an item in a Staples ad (there's not even one in my county) and there was no problem getting the rebates. Ended up with a Netgear Wireless Router for FAR!

I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I have had circuit city claim they didn't have the newspaper ad I referred to and therefore they wouldn't call and verify. They made me go buy a newspaper to bring them even though they had copies of their own. Then they told me with their rebates it was cheaper than the other place and refused to call and ask them as they said they would. They lied and as soon as I'm finished with this gift card, the next time I'll shop there is at the going out of business sale. I saw zero ethics and even the store manager had no public relation skills as he was the one who sent me out to get a paper and then renegged. It also took me several calls to get the gift card promised with my last purchase and they had no record of prior calls. Sheeesh. In my opinion they are the worst!

Worked for Me!

I followed the instructions step by step, and had no problems. After I picked up the item, I returned to CC's customer service and showed them CompUSA ad. They matched the price and gave me 110% the difference back. The next day I printed the rebate forms, made copies of the receipts and other paperwork and mailed in two places for $10 and $20 rebates respectively. It was easy and worth the effort (at least, for me!) Thanks for the deal!!

So, why do you have to pay the orig price and go back and get PM? Why can't you just purchase it with PM the first time?

Because it's just plain safer.

I don't know how much PM'ing you've done in the past, but some of these stores can be extremely nit-picky. For example, some time ago I PM'd an item @ Best Buy. But I made the mistake of doing so AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. IOW, I didn't purchase the item first, then PM'd it after I owned it. As a result, BB would only PM at 100% (not the 110%) claiming that the extra 10% does not apply to initial purchases, only on return for PM. That little mistake cost me $20 + tax!

Some time later, I purchased another item @ BB, but made sure to buy it first. Several minutes later, I visit the customer service desk to PM. Now the CSR tells me I'm only entitled to 100% (not 110%) claiming they only provide the 110% guarantee as a "convenience" for those who have to go through the trouble of driving back to the store.

Of course, I had PM'd @ BB many times before, no one had EVER made such claims (it was even the same store location). All this crap about not providing the 110% PM before purchase, or not on the same day of purchase, are rules that NOT part of their written policy, nor even enforced consistently. It varies store to store, clerk to clerk, even time of day. I suspect many are simply made up by local merchants to thwart PM'ing attempts.

I even complained one time when they denied a PM because they had rebates which dropped the AR price below the competitor. So I asked, if the competitor has rebates, will you honor it as part of the PM. He says yes, we do it all the time. Of course, I knew he didn't. I told him, that's strange, I'm denied all the time by your CSRs when I attempt to PM based on the competitors AR price. But he insisted that they do. Anyway, I'm denied the PM, and return the item. A few minutes later, I come back into the store and picked up a Western Digital 250HD, selling at regular price, w/ NO rebates. I purchase it, walk over to the customer service desk, SAME GUY, and ask for a PM to CC, who was selling the same HD for about $80 AR. THE BASTARDO DENIES THE PM CLAIMING THEY DON'T MATCH REBATES! I'm not kidding, the SAME GUY who just denied the previous rebate, then claimed they will match competitors rebates, not 10 minutes later, denies me a PM on that basis! Of course, it was a lie from the start, he simply wanted to pacify me on the previous denial by making the outlandish claim they will match competitors prices WITH rebates. When I put him to the test, of course it was denied. He was so embarassed by the situation, esp. with everyone else standing around watching all this, he wouldn't even look me in the eys. Just kept shuffling his feet. After 30 seconds of hemmin' and hawin', and a lot of other ppl watching w/ interest how all this will turn out, he relents and PMs the item to $80.

What's my point?

PM'ing is *extremely* YMMV, a very dicey proposition. There's just way too much leverage that favors the retailer. Policies are inconsistent, vague, and often verbally contradictory to written policies. When they don't want to PM, they ALWAYS find an excuse. Too few ppl realize that those PM guarantees are filled with endless exceptions. Of course, some stores are harder than others, CC being one of the worst. Yes, yes, yes, there will always be someone here and there that finds smooth sailing, nothing is absolute. There's always some store run by ppl who don't care, that ignore store policies, that are too lazy to challenge you, that don't have the time given the dozen other ppl waiting behind you, there are always exceptions. We're talking GENERALLY SPEAKING here. On the whole, CC is very tough to PM. And there are rules most ppl would be well advised to follow to maximize your chances for success, such as detailed in this deal. If you feel confident in NOT following the advice, by all means, go for it. But this advice comes from years of experience, I suggest most ppl follow it.

Speaking of YMMV experiences at big box stores like Best Buy and Circuit City..

I thought I would share a very strange experience I had at a Best Buy in Westchester County (just outside New York City). I'd purchased a set of Sony headphones and, within 2 hours of buying the headphones, I decided that I wanted a different color (black vs. blue). I went into the store, armed with my receipt, expecting a simple even exchange. The CSR at the counter told me that they'd "exceeded their limit for returns" for the day and refused my exchange. She told me to come back another day. I figured that she was merely a retail drone following orders and asked to speak to the store manager. I was told he was not available, but another person behind the counter reiterated the first associate's position -- receipt or not, they were not going to do an even exchange for a pair of $9.99 Sony headphones that had not been opened. Sounds like a complete disregard for corporate policy to me.

As I've said before, good luck getting any retailer in NYC to do a pricematch.

My experience...

Printed out the CompUSA info. I clicked on E-Mail and printed out that page, which doesn't say it's only available on-line, and for added insurance printed out the compare page.

Went to CC and just asked for the PM. No problems at all, total with tax was $27.48 and I got both the $10 and $20 rebates printed out as well, making this FAR + a little $

Thanks for the heads up on this deal! :D
