Question?

I have wireless netgear G router and using with AT&T DSL. I used DSL router first then wireless netgear router. My internet connection speed is very slow when I use wireless netgear router. I changed with D-Link router, but it's same thing. If I join directly from DSL router with wire, that's great. I called to AT&T yahoo DSL customer service and they asked me to buy wireless router from them. I don't want to buy from them because it's expensive. I am wondering anyone can help me to guide reasonable or correct wireless router... Thank you.

The solution could be one of many...

1) Is your ATT DSL "fast" if your computer is directly connected to the clamshell ? If yes, then it is your config on your router (wired/wirless).

2) Are your NIC cards (wired/wireless) configured for 100MBps FULL ?

3) Test your upload/download speed by visiting www.speakeasy.net Click on the SPEED TEST found at the bottom right. Then click on a local location at the left (of the next screen). That will tell you your up/down speeds. My FiOS is rated at 10746 Down and 2250 Up.

4) Verizon (FiOS) also has a reg-hack to help increase my speeds. I am not sure if it will work on your ATT. But go look: http://verizon.net/optimizesettings

5) How's your signal from the wireless router to your wirless computer ? If the signal is "low" or "weak" - - then go buy a 5db or 7db gain antenna and stick in on the router.

6) Tell me you turned on WEP and turn off SSID Broadcast on your router. If you didn't - - then someone may be using your ISP to service their internet speeds. If so, then THEY are reducing your overall bandwidth.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll study your directions and test out.
Again thanks a lot!

Happy Holidays!!!

"2) Are your NIC cards (wired/wireless) configured for 100MBps FULL ?"

Would you prefer that instead of AUTODETECT?
