hello friends,

I need loans for the school.

Please list any resource/bank or institution you know of, from where i can apply/get a loan for my school(College).

This has nothing to do with hot deal or anything, just need to find as many as i can and apply and see if i can get a loan from any of them. the reason being,
well, you know what credit a student actually has, so i am having a hard time finding a loan. every effort of yours is deeply appreciated.

Thank you to you all.

yea, the perkins loans are the best loans out there.. try those. Also the fed. stafford loans are nice. try to get subsidized loans(the government pays the interest on the loans for you.. hurray!)

didn't got anything from perkins.

got a 2K from stafford :hmm: what can i say.

so i think my options are pretty much getting from a private institution which will give loan despite not a great credit of a student.

You might want to take english and composition right off the bat once you get in. ;)

But seriously, you need to work with your schools Financial Aid dept, even if they suck (and they will). You should be able to get a subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loan AND Pell Grant (grants are nice because you don't have to pay them off). Should amount to about $5K a semester...

The amount of 'free' aid you receive (i.e. Pell Grant) will be based on your Expected Family Contribution, even if your parents are not helping you pay for college. This is, of course, if you are a college student whose still under their parents as a dependant. So you are not just 'given' these grants like some others think, you have to actually qualify for them. It also depends on the cost of your school. If your EFC is low, but the cost of the school is low too (like a Comm. College or State school), you still may not get much aid.

However, you should still be able to get at least some federal loans, subsidized or not. Try SallieMae (spelling? - Google it), they sometimes offer reasonable educational loans. Whatever you do, stay away from non-educational loans and using your credit card to cover tuition, if at all possible.

Try looking at http://www.ed.gov/students/landing.jhtml?src=fp, this site has some resources there that list different types of loans and where you apply for them. Good luck.

Um...ksocia, how does one become a pedestrian killer champion? Sound like loads of fun, can I try? :13:

well, i have now gotten close to getting $5K but the costs are still very far from being covered. the estimated cost per year for the school is about 25K which includes housing, commute and all related expenses(food, clothing etc...)

so i think my only options now,are to try getting private student loans, however this is not easy since i don't know all places where i can apply for a student loan.

for example, all banks i knew of, i.e. HSBC, Salliemae, CHASE, and one more the name of which i don't remember now, are all that i have applied to so far, so you people might know of other banks or organizations which provide student loans, to which i haven't applied so far, so please either list their info or give me a link to the website.

It'll be of great help.

thank you to you all again for helping.

You know, you might have to get a part time job. I put myself through school with a family and worked part time with loans/grants of about $5K a semester. Still living expenses on top of books and tuition probably cost more like $15K or more a semester. A PT job may be your only choice....

I would suggest contacting Nelnet.

I've got loans through them, and they are a very good company. Their service is excellent.

Hmmm... youve only gotten 5K total from your financial aid office...? I think you need to find a better accountant that does your families tax reurns if youre still a dependent because i was a dependent going to a 4 year state school where total tuition was 5K a year and i was getting 4.5K in free grants alone. And my family was pulling in about 90K gross. The two things you need to look into is how to get yourself independent status as soon as possible so you can get the maximum free money grant awards available, and then go and learn all the loopholes in the tax code so you can deduct practically every expense and become elligable for those grants. And the part time job will help too... heh... welcome to the real world... and yes... it is a bitch :o
