Hmmm, I wonder if I can find a nice Southwest flight into LA. Visit in LA a couple of days, then wing over to Tokyo. Perhaps a snowboarding trip? Always wanted to ride at the Japanese ski resorts. Several are served by the Shinkansen bullet trains out of Tokyo.

Hmmm, I just tried pricing a train ticket. If I did it right its $76 one way from Tokyo to the ski resort at Echigo Yuzawa. Also the lift pass is $56 ( cheaper than a lift ticket here in the US at a major mountain.)
