Lyrics Web Sites Illegal?

The MPA plans a co-ordinated legal campaign in 2006, targeting the largest, most popular sites that carry song scores and lyrics, according to Keiser. The association has not said which sites it intends to shut down, but says it will pursue strong legal action.

they are making music almost not worth it....

The next step is they plan on patenting the English language and putting DRM chipd in everyones ears so that if you don't have a proper liscense it scrambles the sounds. And with the way the U.S> patent office has been going lately, they'll probably get it. Either that or somebody else already has it and will sure RIAA for trying to get it.

It makes you wonder how much Ciris and XP sat radio's have to pay to be able to play music...

The RIAA has no jurisdiction over this matter. This would be the MPA.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted. Good thing to point out though. Not that the RIAA doesn't deserve to be harassed...just maybe not over this particular thing.

is it the lyrics or the chords they're having issue with? cuz i constantly look up song lyrics on the net- i appreciate songs 100x more when i know all the lyrics. plus, i figure if someone went to the effort to write the lyrics, the least i can do is know what they're trying to say.

Yes, but I have found a lot of lyrics sites to be wrong. However, in this age of Itunes, lyrics sites can be nice. I like www.kissthisguy.com, which is based on Hendrix's lyrics to "Purple Haze." I guess Hendrix did actually sing the lyrics like that live at least once joking around, probably when he was under the influence of hallucinogenic chemicals.

anything that says kiss this guy makes me HAVE to click the link :p

Being Deaf, I think they should keep lyrics on the net, how else can I find out what a song is?

I used to look at the lyrics for songs when we had foster kids. When they said they wanted a CD, we'd look at the lyrics to see if we wanted the songs playing in the house and we'd buy the CD accordingly. If they (MPA) could get this through, I bet that even the Christmas Song thread here on Spoofee would be subject to their crossfire.

I would guess most of the standard christmas songs are public domain by now.

maybe they'll have a pay-per-download lyrics site, napster style. you know that's what all this is about :money: :money: :money: :thumbs_do

"I would guess most of the standard christmas songs are public domain by now."

Think again. Even HAPPY BIRTHDAY is owned by someone....

Its legal to post parts of songs, just not complete ones.

They could just replace the a's with @'s, then...

I agree.
This is why local bands are better, enjoy them before money takes over.
