Maxtor 300Gb SATA or 320GB IDE For $59.99 Shipped

IDE drive is also 300 Gb. not 320!

The description says: BONUS 20GB FREE!! so I presume that means it's a total of 320GB. Kind of a different marketing idea. Just imagine they opened up every drive and put an extra 20GB in just for this promotion :teeth:

CORRECTION!!!!!

I just called Fry's to verify. These are 300GB hard drives. They apparently are promoting them as 280GB drives with a bonus of 20GB. That seems somewhat misleading to me. Though this is not a bad price for a 300GB drive.:worry:

It was confirmed on another forums. Someone had already received the HD and said that even though there's a sticker that says a extra FREE 20GB, the HD was still only 300 GB.

With 300 gig do you really think you will miss the 20 gig?

how do you get bonus 20 gb when the drive was obviously made for 300 gb...
These marketing schemes are getting dumber and dumber. Somebody hand me a gun :|

To shoot yourself or them? I don't approve of suicide, but I'd love to bring the sense back into some executives.
Anyhow.....comparing this to other places, this is a good deal, and I've been running several Maxtor drives for a while now and I would recommend them.

on hard drives the engineers calculate space by 1,000; the marketing departments calculate it by 1,024 and then label the drives as that. that's what causes that loss most hard drives. In this case they probably engineered it to be about 315-320 when calculated at 1,024 but it ends up right at 300 when done in 1,000.

It's how they get you :mmph:.
