Do the press/tv people give equal and fair coverage to the candidates, or, do they seem to "court" one or more over the others?

Depends on when you are talking about. Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton were the official Republican and Democrat candidates, at least as far as the media was concerned in January. That changed over time. In May Obama supporters complained that McCain was getting virtually no negative press while all the garbage about Rev. Wright and whatever else Hillary Clinton could dig up was being blasted by the media. Of course, the lack of press for McCain back then is coming back to bite him now (all part of Howard Dean's plan).

However, ultimately, McCain isn't down in the race because of the media, it is the economy. The public don't trust McCain on the economy because he was too busy talking it up right at the point it dived into a global recession. That and the fact he didn't come across well in the debates. He physically didn't look great and came across as very angry. McCain didn't lose the second or third debate by much regarding content, but his manner was not liked by the public and the public gave those debates to Obama.

Add this to the fact that McCain's foreign policy, tax policy, energy policy (all the really important stuff) mimic W so much, the moderates and independents don't trust him. Blame the media all you want, the public doesn't want to elect McCain or the Republicans which could be seeing huge losses in the House and Senate. Eight terrible years of leadership by W and what did you expect? That the people would back the Republicans... again?

Just watch CNN for 5 minutes. I can't take any longer cause it makes me vomit. I have never seen any more left-winged biased station ever! Oh yeah, isn't CNN stands for Communist News Network?!
